    Scrivener: Transfer License?

Discussion in 'Writing Software and Hardware' started by Laurus, Aug 22, 2017.

I just got a new computer and I'm not really in a spot to drop dollars on Scrivener again for how little I'll be using it in the coming months, but I still have my old machine. Anyone know if I can transfer the license so that I still have the full program? It's from Windows 7 to 10 if that matters.

From the Literature and Latte page:

"Scrivener comes with a generous "household" licence. This allows you to install Scrivener on multiple computers (of the same platform, so a Mac licence will not work on Windows, and vice versa) provided that you are the primary user or owner, and on any machines owned by members of your immediate family residing in your household."

Otherwise, why not ask them, instead of us :). I found them very nice to deal with.

ETA: Just a reminder that Scrivener 3 is about to be released soon as a paid upgrade.

Yes, you certainly can, but as @Martin Beerbom mentions, it doesn't cross platforms (Mac to Win, or widdershins likewise). I have the same license running on all my Macs and the number of Macs I have I think officially counts as a "problem" that I may need to look into one day... (I think William and I have 7 Macs in different configurations, various flavors of Macbook Pros and Airs, a Mini, an iMac, looking to get a Big Pro....)

Hopefully you've kept the email in which you received the license.

But y'all are just so nice here.

Ooohh, I pray I have. If not, I'll research this paid upgrade thing and just write in my Word knock off for a bit.

Thank you both for the help.

I think there could be a question whether or not a published author (making money from their writing) count as business... ;)

Be that as it may, as it says in their license agreement: 1) It's not the number of machines, they count users (after all, you would use Scrivener only on one machine at a time, wouldn't you?). 2) When in doubt, ASK THEM. As I said, they're nice and reasonable.

This is true. KB, who I think is the developer in the U.K. (there's one who lives in the U.S. and one in the U.K.) is an actual, talk-to-able person in the forum there. It's kinda' neat having access to the actual creators of the platform.

    Thanks.

Re. the paid upgrade: https://www.literatureandlatte.com/blog/?p=1032 is the link to L&L's announcement blog. Details are still a bit hazy. Release time later this year. Windows version a few months later than Mac, but a free beta of Scrivener 3 for Windows alongside the Mac version (if I understand correctly). Prices not yet set in stone, but expected to be in the same range as before (~$45 range for new users, ~$25 for existing users switching from version 2).
