Very worried about our @Wreybies this morning. That hurricane looks really dangerous. And aimed straight for Puerto Rico. I'll be on tenterhooks till he reports back. Apparently they've already lost power, so this could be a while.

I'm worried about him as well. Do we know if he's still in Puerto Rico or has he evacuated the place?

I thought I saw him say he'd be offline a few days to ride it out, so I assume he's in PR...

I know a few people in Mexico City as well, who just got earthquake'd. Seems to all be hitting at once...

Well here's hoping he's safe wherever he his. My heart breaks for all the poor people who have been and are being assaulted by these horrible natural disasters recently. Hurricanes and storms and earthquakes, just coming one after the other. It's horrible and the frequency at which these things keep happening is honestly mind boggling.

I'm fairly sure he said he was going to stay - when Irma was rolling in he said he'd be okay physically because his condo building is made out of concrete and rebar, and I'm sure hes sensible enough to have food in and a stove and what have you so he doesn't have to go outside. It's more the aftermath and how long their power and infra structure is out for.

I did say in all seriousness that if him and William wanted to bail they'd be welcome to stay at Casa del Moose for a british vaykay , but I think he wanted to stay because his mum's there and everything.

I'm sure he'll be fine but we might not hear for a few days if the storm takes out the cell towers /ecleticity/phone lines and what have you. ( A freind of mine is in dominica and i'm worried about him too because that got twatted ... he's forces and they were basing from there for the clear up in BVI after Irma)

Wrey's still in his house (or his hubby's house) in PR. They have done what they could to secure the house (closing storm shutters, taking down trees that were too close, etc.). Power went out quite early, so we'll be in the dark as to how it goes over there for a while.

The news from Puerto Rico this morning (Thursday) is not good. It might be a while before Wrey is able to contact us at all. http://edition.cnn.com/2017/09/20/americas/hurricane-maria-caribbean-islands/index.html

His condo (from photos taken before the storm) seems to be fairly high up a hill, so hopefully flooding won't be an issue. And he said it's made of concrete, so it should be standing. But he won't escape the problems that come from the power being out, lack of supplies etc.

And he's just one of many. This really is a disaster for folks who live in the region, and who have businesses there.

mind you they said the same thing after Irma and power was back on in about 48 hours, here's hoping its not as bad as reported.

There are a number of us who have contact with him off-forum, so I'm sure as soon as he pops up anywhere it will be noted here, even if he's saving battery. Cell networks are a different issue, of course, but he was well prepared for the last one as far as food and supplies, and had additional time to prepare this time around.

    Concerned but not worried.

    yeah, that ...

on a related topic since the hurricanes all sorts of disaster relief appeals have been popping up some legit, some scams

Good article here on the legit ones https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/9/20/16338698/donate-hurricane-earthquake-relief-recovery

Personally i'm keeping my powder dry until we find out if Wrey needs anything himself .... if he winds up needing several k for a roof or something I'd rather donate to a WF crowd fund "save the wreybies" :D

I suspect his problems may be more short term (running out of supplies, etc.) He sounded as if he was fairly sure of his home withstanding the hurricane. But he has family living elsewhere on the island. Nothing we can do at present, of course, other than sending good vibes.

They just said Puerto Rico could be without power for 4-6 months.

Somebody needs to take charge with @Wreybies out of action. If it falls to me to start a fight to cut out the cancer of bent and twisted journalism in our country with the simple sword of truth and the trusty shield of British fair play, so be it, hic.

I think Minstrel is next in line to the throne , or was it Komposten who was dubbed hand of the king ? Of course perhaps daniel will come back from his mission beyond the wall to reclaim his crown

I read that, too. The power grid, according to the PR governor, wasn't in such hot shape to begin with.

It will take some belt-tightening from us (meaning US public agencies, private citizens, and institutional bodies ) to make it happen, with so many areas of the country being hit this past month, but we have got to do something to get the power back on in Puerto Rico faster than that. It being an island makes the job more difficult, but it must be done.

Worrying about @Wreybies and hoping he has some way to make contact. Does anyone know the name of his city?

isn't he just outside san juan - hes got a mobile but the storm took a lot of cell towers out.

on the power thing word is that the power plants are okay its the distribution thats gone all to shit - power lines and stuff .... chances are the six month estimate is to have everywhere re strung, i'd guess that some areas will be done faster than others

His place - his property - is on the west side of the island. He said it's pretty safe there, but I think he's staying at William's condo in the city of Caguas. It's a strongly-built concrete building, so he'll be safe, but there'll be flooding, no power, probably no cell service, scarce food, etc. Wreybies is smart enough to have stocked up on water and food; I just hope he's got a lot of charged batteries.

Nope - and tbh we arent going to for a while ... Theres no power and no cell service out there currently - I'm sure he'll be fine his building is a concrete condo block (in Cagua Minstel said) and he'll be prepared

Last I heard from him, he was prepping the house for the hurricane -- removing trees that were too close for comfort. Here's hoping he's all right. :[ As far as power goes, yeah, they're kind of off the grid for now so it'll be a while before we hear of him.

I moved related posts from the Not Happy Thread into this thread. They contain some information about the current state of PR and what we know about Wrey's situation.

(Since the posts retain their original date/time, it now looks like @jannert created this thread (I can't really do anything about that).)

We should contact a WFer that lives on the US Gulf Coast or on one of the islands close to where Wrey is so we can rescue him if needed.
