Hello writers! I have recently decided to take a serious stab at writing a novel and thought it would be a good idea to surround myself with a community of people who are trying to do the same thing. A little about myself: My name is Jason Govender, I am eighteen years old born and raised in South Africa. With a love for reading since I can remember I thought I should try writing something that would grip me into a unique story as much as those books could. Hence my attempt to mash-up a mystery novel in a medieval fantasy setting. I hope to meet more of you in the community so that we can help each other out!
Hi Jason. Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll find lots of information around the forum that you'll find extremely helpful. See you around
Welcome to the site! I kid you not, people who read fantasy novels have literally been talking for years about how this is something not enough writers are doing, and that more writers should be doing
Hello Jason. This forum seems like a great way to meet others with the same interest and common ground. The name's Jennifer. I'm seventeen and I'm also taking a serious stab at writing a book. It's Greek mythology based and centres around my own character, Lynna, the daughter of Medusa and Poseidon. What's your book about? Hope to talk to you more about our projects. Good luck with your work.
Hey Jennifer, good to meet you! My book focuses on a pair of detectives in a medieval fantasy setting. It'll have one big mystery that the partners try to solve while incorporating a bunch od subs-plots. I would love to hear more about you book, you can send me an extract at jasongovender97@gmail.com The 14 day wait for critique can really drag.
Welcome to the forums, Jason! I love the concept for your story; as a fantasy fan, I think a detective story in that setting would be fantastic, and something I haven't really seen a lot of. Do you have any stories or authors that inspired that direction for your writing?
Hey Amber thanks so much! I would say that I always loved mystery as a means of moving a plot forward. But I always lived in fantasy worlds like the sword of truth, eragon, and the wheel of time. Then I recently read Mr. MERCEDES by stephen king which made me really interested in the whole detective mystery genre. All it took was taking an arrow from mystery to fantasy on a brainstorm to think of the idea.
