    Character theme songs?

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by Storm713, Nov 23, 2017.

    Hi,
I'm not exactly sure where this post goes (as always) so I just put it in General Writing. Feel free to move it or whatever, as I'm pretty new here. (If that even possible, to move a post? xD)
But anyway, I was wondering: who else comes up with character theme songs? I've heard of making playlists to listen to while writing, but is there one song that you feel really applies to your character?
Even though I feel like they should be easy to find songs for, I'm kind of stuck with my two MCs theme songs. The first one is Elyse (16 yrs old) - a shy girl with a big, caring heart. She's a pretty stereotype introvert, and holds her illness as a secret for fear that others will reject her once they find out that she has terminal cancer. Quiet, studious, terrified of her approaching death, Elyse only gets mad when someone she loves is hurt.
Arianna (16 yrs old) - her first impression is of a haughty, arrogant aristocrat. She comes from a practically royal family that's infamous for their racist ideals, beauty, and insanity. But behind the cold mask lies a girl, one that fears her abusive parents, yet is terrified that she'll let her demons out and become like them. She rebels and runs away, and then we can finally see the broken heart she hides beneath first her royalty and then her emerging, fiery passion.
So, who else finds theme songs? You're welcome to share your characters and their songs! :)

I didn't search for theme songs, just got hit with their appropriateness. Mind, my characters are pretty complex.

Daniel: Leonard Cohen 'First we take Manhattan' & Dam 'Meen Erhabi' & Immortal Technique 'Point of no return' & Schiller 'Sonne'
Kay: Angels and Agony 'Destination' & C-Lekktor 'Silence remains' & Eminem/Rihanna 'Love the way you lie' & SITD 'MK Ultra' & Rammstein 'Haifisch'

I don't need to explain my characters when these songs come up :D

I don't have songs I'd attach to any particular character, but I do tend to listen to songs that have something to do with an emotion I'm trying to render in words... or the song just sounds good and gets my creative juices flowing.:)

A song I've taken a liking to, and accounts for one sentence in my WIP is Thin Lizzy's... Whiskey in the Jar... "Stand and Deliver or the Devil he may take ya!"

I don't have theme songs for individual characters, only for the novel (Human by Of Monsters and Men, if anyone's wondering). I didn't go looking, it just sort of happened.

I have a suggestion for Elyse, though:

    Or this one:

here is a theme song I wrote for my main female character

In my story, she wrote this song for the main character, yet he doesn't realize it for a long while.
