    Calling all party animals

    Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by deadrats, Dec 14, 2017.

    Whether it's reaching a word-count threshold in your novel or selling a short story or essay (or finishing either) how do you celebrate? This morning I made some major progress on my novel. And I've reached a word count way beyond the short stories I am used to writing. Okay, looks like this is really a novel. Anyone want to come over with wine?

    I don't celebrate writing itself. I am a party animal and I love to drink, but I'll celebrate getting published, nothing less.

    I tend to get more stressed after I've done writing something because I'm worried that I've made a mistake. I know that editors can be pretty brutal, but peer reviews are way worse. Once I've gone through the entire process, I'll celebrate with a smoke (I dislike alcohol.) For fiction, escaping reality into a fantasy world for an few hours is it's own reward.

    Happiness for things accomplished is a sufficient reward for me.
    What can I say? If I was a party animal, I'd probably be a three-toed sloth.

    Count me in. I should have celebrated when I finished my first novel with white wine, because that's what I told people, but I didn't celebrate at all. Today I finished a first revision round for my current novel, and I'm for some reason in a celebratory mood. Congratulations on your novel-to-be! The best of luck with it, and cheers! *clink*

    Congratulations! :cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader:

    When I finish my novel, it will be Veuve Cliquot champagne with the friends who encouraged me.

    I almost only drink around new people. I'll typically celebrate writing milestones or getting encouraging feedback by relaxing with game(s). Back when my credit card had more space, I'd save money and reward myself with a little treat (a game, a collectible, going out to eat).

    When I finish a first draft I take the next day off, try to sleep in and not think about writing for that entire day. The day after that I plan out either my next project or drafting and rewrites. Regardless, when I'm able to, I generally find it a good idea to get a good rip on at least once every couple of weeks. Helps maintain the sanity and all that.
