Also treated the wife to a rack of lamb, and some risotto with an Ethiopian twist.

Me when I upload a short story on three different sites, and people from all three of the sites accurately discern Lovecraft as one of my influences.

All you have to do is keep describing your horror-beast as "nameless" and "ancient." Lovecraft thought old things he couldn't name were scary. He must have met my great-aunt. :p

    Surprisingly I didn't do that.

The thought of your great-aunt will surely keep me awake tonight though. ;P

EDIT: I wouldn't so easily dismiss that common theme in his work though. From a psychological perspective, the unknown is infinitely more terrifying than what can be defined. He got that right.

Feels good to write a couple scenes after a long drought, I had to skip a scene I wasn't sure how to write, nor could I justify at this moment in time.

I think the big thing about Lovecraft's horror style that is scary to me is that it doesn't matter what you do. His style is one in which even the best choices end in misery.

    Cake for breakfast!

...though I'm mostly comfort eating because of my confused feelings, so might not count into the happiness thread.

Oh, what the hell: CAKE FOR BREAKFAST! :D

Thanks. I have never been able to maintain a high word count of on daily basis, but those days I get a big chunk of writing down and work on it and it doesn't suck, those are good days.

I know exactly what you mean, the same here. I go days without writing (usually external causes are the reason such as work, or Video Games, :p ). But when I finally get a big chuck written, completing a scene or two, damn doesn't it feel good to accomplish it.

AS for Sucking, since i'm using pen and paper, I don't try to worry to much about that, if something doesn't work, I cross it off and move on, and for a scene or two I started it, then skipped it. (hopefully to return to it, once I can justify said scene.)

Edit: I forgot to mention my Dogs as well (one who is my profile pic), naturally they want attention as well, and the one I use as a profile pic doesn't like my playing video games. :p .

I think we all go days without writing. It's hard not to. Today, I made myself sit and write a little. It was just going to be another paragraph, then 500 words, then I just went with it for as long as I could. I don't feel drained or anything. I actually feel pretty motivated to see what I can pull off tomorrow. I will probably want a little break after that.

I'm off to the inlaws for a few days, no writing there, my tablet keyboard sucks and I don't want to bother my brother in law for use of his PC. Guess I'll just have to ponder for a while, I'm good at that.

Thus the beauty of pen and paper. Now, go out and get yourself a notebook and some pens.

I am happy to have more to say on this thread than on the not happy one these days. Does that count as a post ?

Seems like being away from work since yesterday afternoon coincides well with my level of that happy feeling rising above the non-sense of the tasks that no longer seem to give me the same "fizz" as before. Time of change, discovery and exploration, hence also may well be time for a new tribe.

Cold and very sunny works well today and is an added bonus for the mood I harbour. Freakin' cold this past little while, makes one move briskly through the streets as the sun attempts to feed the small amount of skin exposed after wrapping all that winter gear around myself.

"I have been my burning my bare broken candle." ....... "Sometimes I want to wrap my coat around you woman."

From the 1973 Goats Head Soup album.

Pulled off another day of writing over 2k words. And with that I finished a 5k-word short story. And right now it feels like the best thing I wrote all year.

You just got in under the wire. Otherwise it would be the first thing you wrote next year! :)

So I was watching LaLa Land and got so incredibly bored that I started to clean the drain under the bathtub (yes, I'm still stick, yes I know it's New Years Eve, yes this totally made sense in my head) and finally figured out how that thing works! So after WEEKS with a bad smell and barley being able to shower without flooding the entire bathroom I finally manged to fix it!

The previous owner had ignored the entire bathroom and left hairballs the size of a rat in there. Good times! I mean, I hadn't thrown up all day, so it was JUST what I needed!

Oh, this is the happy thread? I can finally use my bathtub! Yay!

Some of the hair was mine - but it hadn't been cleaned in a good long while. The previous owners girlfriend had REALLY long hair, so I'll blame it all on her!

My hair is short on one side and long on the other - but appartently it doesn't count as long if it doesn't go past your shoulder, so I got short on one side and really short on the other!
