Had my new phone a few months, dropped it, face down, on tiled floor.... screen's a god damn mess. Just gotta hope it holds out for this weekend whilst I go away to visit family, then I can swap to my old phone and claim on this one, but... damn it.

I've had this weird block in my head the past days. I can't really focus on anything, least of all writing.

    Also comes with daily headaches.

I think it's worry and angst over the possible job I've mentioned in a few posts before. I thought I was going to get an answer last week, but now it seems like I might be losing the chance.

I'm trying to convince my brain that there is nothing I can do about it this weekend, that I should relax, have fun (AND WRITE), this weekend, but thus far there's nothing.

Also I've got a short story, based on an old character, that's been wanting my attention. It's like when you have a word at the tip of your tongue, but can't quite get there.

At the moment I'd be happy to get anything written, though. Or drawn. Or just sitting down by the TV and play some Fallout. ANYTHING. At least I've written this long rant. That's... an improvement?

You realise the spanish scale on it is centimetres though, not inches :D

We actually don't do metric where I live.

Or, to be more specific, we have a mixed bag of measurements.

    Petrol is in liters.
    Milk is in gallons.
Speed limits are miles per hour.
Road signage indicating distances to destination is in kilometers.
Smaller, day-to-day "household" measurements are in inches and feet.
Land is in square meters until it hits a threshold and then it's measured in cuerdas.

I can feel this we have pikes, poles chains, rods and perches .... not that anyone ever uses any of them anymore except that hedgelaying contracts are generally by the chain (22 yards).

Less prosaically speed is in miles per hour and road signs are in miles, but all lesser measurements are in metres/centimetres/millimetres unless you are dealing with land which is still in acres if its less than a hectare.

Weights and measures are in Kg/g if purchasing stuff but people talk about their own weight in stone and pounds

There are people who say that after brexit we should go back to imperial measures - however I propose the moosist scale which will scale from 9/10 of fuck all via quite a bit, a good handful, fuck that's a lot, a pick up truck load, that'll never fit in a sweeper, a shit load, and an absolute shit load to the highest measurement the fucktonne

The Metric system is the tool of the devil. My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead and that's how I like it!

Please let's not go back to imperial - I'm too young to know it, I only learned metric!

And now I must go and have my nappy changed.

I realized the other day that I only know celsius for outside temperatures, but only know fahrenheit for inside temperatures. Like, if you say it's twenty degrees fahrenheit outside, I have no real idea how cold that is, but if you say it's twenty degrees celsius inside, I don't really know what that means, either.

Room temperature is 72 degrees. A nice day outside is 25 degrees. These do not make sense together, but they're how my brain works.

Is it because all of your AC units are designed for Americans or Fahrenheit is better for accurate temperatures because of smaller increments?

So it's my friend's surprise birthday party today

And unfortunately it's emo Kylo Ren themed in which all the guests have to dress like Kylo Ren

I found suitable clothes I already owned because I really don't have any money to blow on closet cosplays right now

And I drove all the way home

Only to realise I completely forgot the outfit. And any other clothes.

So I had to go to a store that I had a gift card like thing at and buy a new outfit like I didn't want to.

At least the dress that was over my limit is actually a work dress that I can wear for work.

But super bummed all the same.

I was legitimately contemplating going back to get it. . .

Seconded! Being dyslexic, the Moosist scale makes so much more sense to me than the metric system.

    Long live the fucktonne!

ETA: Aaaaand you can see how dyslexic I am, given that I reversed your quote and my reply... [bangs head on desk]

Feeling stretched-thin, hopeless. And lacking confidence in my writing ability.

Cary Grant. Most definitely Cary Grant...who, now that I think about it, did an American in Japan thing. (His last film, Walk Don't Run.)

@Iain Aschendale, I'm sending good vibes that you get your hat back.

Oh, actually, that's another subcategory! I know inside SUMMER temperatures in celsius! It's only winter inside temperature I know in fahrenheit. My thermostat switches between the two. So in the summer time the AC kicks on at 24C, but in the winter the furnace turns on at 70F. I'm going to guess 24C and 70F are pretty close to the same temperature? But maybe 24 is a bit higher? I don't know...
