That would have to be the dark, quiet antihero, who is tortured by his dark past but is trying to hide it. Maybe a bit specific but I'm always a sucker for a good antihero.

The charismatic villain, who knows and admits that he's evil and owns it.

The relentless pessimist. Know matter how good it's going he just has to complain, hillarity insues.

Bonus: In a story where everyone is absolutely insane, the one normal person. Every time they enter the scene it is pure relief. They will fix any screwups and act compleatly normal doing it. Basically, they're the best.
Shoutout to Alyosha Karamazov, Polly Sherman and McWatt

The character who is his/her own worse enemy. Man vs himself conflict.

I was going to mention the archetypical, wounded^subversive, map-of-the-the-world faced, "I hate that I cannot not do the right thing," plucky, witlash, badass; though, you mapped it out rather welll with those characters.

I like all kind of redemption characters and villains who went bad for a good reason.

One of my faves: The cocky, mysterious, complex but not too complex, narcissistic, borderline sadistic, egotistical, wealthy jerk with a caring, lovable side no one sees but a select few. Bonus points if he had a rough background or childhood he had to work through in order to get to where he's at now-not just in his successes but emotional, spiritually, etc. Like a, don't judge, Seto Kaiba.

Well it's not a major feud but the actors who play Cersei (Lena Headey) and Bronn (Jerome Flyyn) from Game of Thrones actually dated in real life and apparently hate one another now. That's why, in the entire GOT series, they are never in the same scene together. They wouldn't work together :ohno:

Apparently the couple from "Dirty Dancing" absolutely loathed each other.

I heard, shortly after the movie came out, that Rob Brown, the MC in Finding Forrester, loathed F. Murray Abraham, but that was by design. He didn't have much any previous acting experience, so Abraham and Sean Connery got together and agreed to play "good cop/bad cop" while in production. Connery was always there to provide tips and a sympathetic ear, while Abraham (the villain of the story) would criticize him and never let up on his mistakes. They came clean after filming was done. Heard this in a radio interview though, and I haven't been able to source it since, so grains of salt.

The Supremely Superior Mentor eacher/Master always looking down on their students, alot of times the main character. I cant help but laugh any time i see one in the story, it gets me every time. Even just them being introduced usually has me smiling
the playoff of somebody who is already in a position much higher than your treating you like dirt.. Halarious, I love it

Also I have a soft spot for hard-ass teachers, and am a fan of perseverence through opposition so this character type really hits home for me.
Varrick from The Legend of Korra
Master Shi-fu from King fu panda
    Snape from Harry Potter

I too enjoy this kind of character, especially when it comes to martial arts. I don't know why but I always find the wise, old, tough teachers to be my favorite :p

The old masters are always going to be the toughest teachers on the job. And I just find that to be just Halarious

Maybe not a hard ass, but he did have a sortve I'm better than anybody I meet mentality, especially those who work under me.
... He did kindve pull a couple of hardcore jips on people. Almost got korra and her gang killed in the second season. So he might be considered a bit of a hard ass,. In a way

My favorite archetype is a character who knows everything is wrong, sees that the world is rotten, and understand that good will fail and die a cold death in the end.

And still does the right thing.

In To Kill a Mocking Bird Atticus knows that Tom is going to get unfairly convicted because of inherent, ingrained racism. Atticus still defends Tom in court, risking his life and the life of his daughter for moral justice.

Another example is Gurney Halleck from Dune. Even thought his leaders are betrayed by other nobles, and the Harkonnen are in control of the planet, he fights on as a smuggler and criminal rather than go back on his sense of duty and oath.

Best part about archetypes/cliches: breaking them. Gimme the trickster who ain't near as slick as he thinks he is. The awesome chic with great fighting skills that's also a wonderful mother. Old grandpa character that's kindly but not all that wise. Something different from the norm.

It is the best movie for writers to watch.

The successes are the kind where it's easy to talk about (and learn from for your own writing) what succeeded, the flaws are the kind where it's easy to talk about (and learn from for your own writing) what was flawed, and the whole package is fun enough that you keep watching even when you notice the flaws :)

After you watch the movie, do you want to watch this super-spoilery review about what made it such an amazing production to learn about writing from?
