    Hello, hello, hello

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Cayce Berryman, Mar 5, 2018.

My name is Cayce Berryman, and I'm many things. I'm an independent editor who is also trying to get into writing again. I run a writing group called Authors' Tale on Facebook, and while I have plenty going on in there, I still enjoy seeing what else is out there. Obviously, because I'm here with you guys.

I write fantasy and literary novels, but I have written more short stories than anything lately. Blame Authors' Tale, I guess, and the writing prompts there. I started out writing fantasy though, then I went into journalism and editing, and from there I did the college thing and learned too much about writing. By too much, I mean I got too academically involved for a little bit.

I'm hoping to learn a bit and help a bit here, and maybe make a few new nerd friends. I have a dog, so if you have one, we're friends already.

    Just saying.

    Nice to meet everyone!

Oh, I guess since there's an editing services tag, I should make that relevant. I started out as an editor for newspapers, but my obsession with books drove me to learn Chicago Manual of Style, which I agree with so much more than AP. Tell no one.

Anyway, I specialize in fantasy and literary, but a good suspense could really get me excited. I offer all new prospective clients a ten-page sample edit. If you're interested in my services and want to learn more about what services I offer, feel free to check out my site here. If you just want a writer friend, I'm game for that. Totally game. That's why I'm here.

Okay, now "nice to meet everyone."

Hello, nice to meet you. Interesting that you mentioned editing services... editing has been alway an Achilles' heel on my work, but I hope to achieve a medium proficiency for it. I guess it's due lack of external point of view, also... but if there's relevant technical insight you can offer, you may be be a godsend, hehe.

Hopefully I'll read some examples from you. I have recently explored the fantasy themes, though my main course has been heartbreaking drama. I made one fanfic on fantasy, and would be cool to see what did I miss to make it more cool. Be well!

Hi! Sorry, I used the e-mail I don't check to sign up for this. That was dumb. It's hard to edit your own work. Even editors need editors! When you're looking at something you've written, your mind automatically fills in blanks that prevent you from noticing things. It's a bummer, and sometimes it's really frustrating, but it's human. :)

I'd love to look at some of your writing! I haven't read heartbreaking drama in a while, but fantasy is definitely my specialty! I guess you can't really tag people in forums, can you? Have you shared something on here?

I likely responded to you recently but to your real name. ;) I didn't check the e-mail I signed up to this forum with until now and realized I should have probably used my work e-mail. Whoops. Hello. :) Nice to meet you!

I haven't yet, since there is a requirement of two weeks from the account creation, plus a requirement of submitting at least two critics for anything you post in the workshop, which is a sound rule on my opinion. But have posted critics about ongoing work of other writers, and has been really instructive for my own writing. You could do some serious review also around, specially on the genres you feel most attracted to write.

Also, the off-topic threads of the forum can be of help, though there are some discussions that should rather be avoided, to be honest. But anyway, I'm still anxious to post by my own. And hope you too!

Thanks for the tips. :) It'll take a bit for me to figure out what's what here and such. I look forward to it!

Yes, by inserting @Cayce Berryman before their name (the system will find the name when it has enough letters to go on).
