    Color names

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Quanta, Mar 13, 2018.

Do color names, such as titanium white, cadmium yellow, burnt umber, etc. need to be written with capitals?

Don't think so. They're not proper nouns. I've never come across them capitalized, anyway, and wikipedia (that bastion of knowledge) doesn't do it.

Nope, a color is a color. You don't capitalize poppy red do you?
They are not proper nouns, therefore you don't need to capitalize them. :)

That's what I thought, and I hadn't capitalized them, but one of my betas thought I should.
That much less editing to do, then. Thank you.:)

I would only capitalize it if it's a specific brand, ie: Bob Ross's Titanium White.

I think a simple "Find and Replace" would resolve the issue if you needed to capitalise those terms :) not saying you do, but in case the function might be useful to you in the future!

But then, I would have to remember all of the colors my MC uses... but they're all colors I also use, so that should have been easy enough.
"Find & Replace" is very useful when I realize that I've used the same vague word 26 times in my manuscript!
