Movies - What did you think about the last movie you watched

I finally watched Batman vs Superman : Dawn Of Justice last night on Netflix, yepper all 2 hours and 31 minutes. What a disappointment. I should have know better, Superman is clearly the winner. Batman has no powers, he uses his brains (which I like) but seriously how can you compare the two. I did like the special effects, does that count

 

Last movie I watched was Roadhouse. I've seen it before, so yeah, I love that movie. Patrick Swayze is my favorite actor.

 

I watched the first movie of The Hunger Games. I really like the concept of death games, and for me ( a sadistic person ) it's great

 

Man, I don't watch movies often, but I saw Justice League when it came out. As expected, it didn't live up to my expectations - which were already low - and frankly scolded myself for not waiting until the movie was available online.

 

Yeah, Dawn of Justice was disappointing. Didn't help that the movie built on Superman, which was a whole other mess. In addition, the v in the titled bothered me to no end. It's not a case, Snyder, it's a film.

 

The Hulk, the 2003 version. It was... not good.

 

Is it bad that I don't remember the last movie I watched?

In the theater? The Greatest Showman, which I liked quite a bit more than I thought I would.

Whoops, forgot The Shape of Water, which wasn't to my taste.

 

Well it sucked, but I was asked to give it a watch so I did.
Also the musical score was off and sucked.

It was Sunset Boulevard, one of my favorite movies. (It and Chaplin's City Lights trade places back and forth as my favorite and second favorite movies of all time.) William Holden plays Joe Gillis, a screenwriter in Hollywood. Gloria Swanson plays faded silent movie star Norma Desmond. I'm not even going to tell you anything that happens, because it's a wonderfully twisted tale by the brilliant mind of Billy Wilder. Just...see it, if you haven't, and when you do, be sure settle in to enjoy it without distractions. It's fabulous.

I love it because even though it's dark satire, it's an accurate statement on Hollywood. I've never seen it done better. Gloria Swanson was just amazing in it...so good in fact, that people ended up believing she was really like that, and it ended up not helping her career, even though she was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Norma Desmond.

And the narration...There are parts of it that make me laugh every time.

I make a point of watching Sunset Boulevard at least once a year to stay grounded in a town that goes out of its way to encourage people to not stay grounded. As I told my friends IRL, if any of you ever see me behaving like Norma Desmond, feel free to virtually kick my ass or slap me upside the head.

As an aside, every time I see this movie, I badly want to get a dog or cat named Max just so I can call him in the frantic way Norma says, "Max!!! Max!!!" And mark my words, I am going to have a Himalayan cat named Miss Swanson.

Oooh, as I type this, Casablanca's starting next. It's my favorite of all time when it comes to lighting and camera angles. Every shot could be framed as a still photo and would look gorgeously art deco. Gotta go!

This sounds a lot like something a reviewer said about another film.

"The music was bad...when it was not good."

 

Mark Twain (apocryphally) said that "Wagner's music is probably better than it sounds." If Sammy C. wasn't the one to have said it, whoever did certainly captured his spirit.

 

I watched the new version of "Murder On The Orient Express". I give it a 4 out of 10. My family is not going to let me pick the movies for movie night anymore.

 

I don't like Kenneth Branagh movies where he acts and directs. He's pretty good at either/or, but when he's doing both, it seems that there's no one to rein him in. Haven't seen the above, but I a couple reviews that I read said that he seemed to be pushing the other actors out of the scenes.

 

The Petrified Forest with Bette Davis, Leslie Howard, Humphrey Bogart. I like all the actors, and I like the way they portray their characters, but as a whole the movie always leaves me wanting something more...Not sure what. It’s like I want to see them each doing their role in another film.

 

Now that I think back, that is true.

 

The Philadelphia Story . I've seen it probably a hundred times at this point, for one reason: Cary Grant at his most "Cary Grant"iest. His character is charmingly obnoxious, and I can't take my eyes off him in this one. I love watching his face and his reactions. The other cast members are wonderful, too, but I watch it for Cary Grant. He even manages to steal the movie from Katharine Hepburn, which isn't easy, because she's at her Hepburn flighty character best. (And I'm a Hepburn fan.)

Never let anyone tell you Cary Grant was only a "movie star", or that his acting was only good because of his looks and charm. Near the very end of the movie, watch his face change as he comes to the realization of what he wants to do. That's acting. Cary Grant was a very good actor. He himself always said his entire Cary Grant persona was an act, and that he wished he could be like "Cary Grant" too because he felt deeply insecure.

The movie is screwball comedy, and very much of its time, so if you're not into old movies with a lot of snappy dialogue, you'll probably hate it. Being dialogue-driven, with this movie you really have to pay attention to understand what's going on.

As an aside, I love the white library in the family's home. MGM's Cedric Gibbons at his best. Clothes by Adrian are 1930's fantastic, too.

 

Let's see.. that would be The Hateful Eight. Loved it. I've seen it 5 times.

 

I'm not much of a movie watcher. I can't remember the last film I viewed in its entirety but the first one that comes to mind is Godzilla 2014. Not a bad film, even though the trailer lied by pretending that Godzilla was going to be the main antagonist. This was pretty disappointing, but I still liked it.

 

Well, this was the only movie thread I could find... so i'll just use this.

I was planning on watching Bull Durham tonight, just some random thing to watch, I like Kevin Costner... however I watched about a minute of it before stopping for two reasons. The opening monologue was kind of dumb, but that maybe the Christian in my speaking. . But that wasn't the deal breaker, it's when I started recognizing the voice, Susan Surandon.

I fucking hate that bitch, something about here just annoys the hell out of me, and I refuse to watch any movie she is in... no matter how good it may be... so I abandon ship quickly and just returned to my new normal Amazon Video Watching. Also hate Merrill streep, though I do enjoy her in Death Becomes Her... LOL.

 

Yeah, Susan Sarandon's a tough one to like, but have you ever seen Dead Man Walking with her and Sean Penn? Two of my least favorites, but somehow.... Give it a shot, she plays a real-life nun.
