After a two-day sprint of reading, I've come to learn a crucial lesson: it's never too late to start the habit of reading; don't you ever make yourself feel ashamed for not having started earlier. It doesn't matter if you started at age 5 or 55 (or even 95.) Once you start reading, you're set to go.

The same applies to writing, to be sure, but it's the reading that gave me this much-needed lesson.

I'm transferring some random notes from my phone to my laptop and discovered a fun typo -- where I'd intended to say "threatens to kill them," I instead said, "threatens to fill them." Not entirely sure I want to consider what that would mean if taken literally.

You have no idea how on-brand it would be for me to write something where the abstract concept of hubris (the thing threatening death in these notes ... I think? past-izzy is a shit note-taker) just does away with ceremony and gets the point across in a more direct fashion :p

Hubris always fucks you over ... but this time she's taking it literally*.

M&Ms. Threatens to fill them with M&Ms is a trope, right? o_O

ETA: And after that, well...they've gotta come out somehow, don't they?

So I was snacking on nori like potatoe chips as one does when I went to find my clicker only to see my cat had gotten into my seaweed and was eating it enthusiastically.

I quickly googled whether seaweed is safe for cats to consume or whether I needed to locate my car keys.

According to the interwebs, it's not only safe for felines to consume—it's actually really good for them for a variety of reasons.

    Particularly nori, kombu, and wakame.

So I guess Namir and I get to bond over snacking on seaweeds.

Turns out though it probably was a good thing I mistakenly grabbed the unflavoured nori at the market.

You're so much nicer than I am. My brain autocompleted to, "Threatens to fill them with knives?"

Meanwhile, elsewhere in my notes, a train of thought terminates with:

[...] so a devolving cannibalistic arsonist who was previously incredibly highly functioning in society, all the while keeping people in their basement to chew on and fuck with for the giggles

    yep

    that’s the thing apparently
(I don't use proper grammar in my notes and it frequently reads as me talking to myself, complete with live [judgey] commentary.)

Has anyone else noticed that if you glance at the bottle of ink and quills in the Writng Forums banner just the right way, it resembles a guy in armor wielding a sword and shield? The bottle of ink is his head, and the feather above the word Alerts is the shield. For the longest time when I first joined, I thought that's what it was. ETA: I thought it was an intentional play on "the pen is mightier than the sword."

ETA: The pic is different on the mobile version. I'm usually here on my laptop.

I access this site mainly on my iPhone, so I think I may be seeing something different than yourself.

Yep, not there on the iphone. When I'm here I'm usually on my laptop with the Forum in one window and whatever I'm working on in another.

Yeah, my monitor on my desktop is a decade or more old, the only device I see the background on is my tablet.

That's a shame because it's a very cool optical illusion.

Glad you said that. I thought you were hanging out in a parking garage with a bottle or something. :)

"So here's the plan. I'm gonna prep a big bowl of ramen, right? Then I'm gonna put a shit-ton of negi (green onions) on top."

"Yeah, and? Fuckin' negi ramen, that's your big scheme?"

"No, no, hear me out. Because then, I'm gonna put in in front of the guest, and heat up a saucepan full of cooking oil to the flash point... and light it on fucking fire! Then, get this, I'm going to dump flaming boiling oil right the fuck into the ramen and light their goddamn eyebrows on fire!"

"The fire department will never allow it."

"Oh, but you're wrong. See, I was speaking in the future tense, but fact is, I've been doing this for thirty years now. Suckers are paying fifteen bucks a bowl for the stuff, and going home happy and blogging about it."

No, Mrs. A and I aren't in the attached video, for privacy reasons, but we just got back from that same restaurant, and it's pretty damn cool.

I don't think I will bother reading Throne of Glass.
From the revs I have been hearing, it is one of those
    shit writes for the fire.

Why the fuck would you have a bad ass assassin that
does fuck all in the killing department? Sarah J. Maas
you should introduce your face to a metal topped
    desk multiple times.
Also hardened killers don't give a shit about looking
good while in the middle of a fight...
Why is this a thing, and how desperate are publishers
    to print such shit?

I bet if I tossed a dart at a random Fantasy writer here,
they would write something 10 times better.

    SMH...

Wow... Even I know I wouldn't do that. My assassins will kill, and no one will give a shit about their looks in a fight.
