I've always wondered - if you bit into a human eyeball, would it explode in a gooey mess or would it be rubbery?

Not that I'm aware of ... I used to be a soldier ... we always take the rise out of marines (If i'd been airborne it would be even worse)

This old shit at my old job - I said to him in my fruity voice, 'I say, Dicky, you were a marine, weren't you Richard?' He's an old scouser, and he growled - 'Royal Marine to you...'

Ha! Got schooled by a Royal Marine. :p Ouch.

Over here, back in college, a fellow classmate was once a former member of the U.S. Navy. I asked if he were part of the army, and he corrected it very quickly. Apparently in the U.S. military, there's a rivalry among the three branches. :p

every military has it , and indeed within those branches (incidentally the USMC will be very quick to tell you they aren't part of the USN so that should be four branches not three. The Royals are part of the Uk navy so we only have three services arms)

For example in the uk army as well as everyone taking the piss out of the cabbage patch dolls (marines), Crabs (RAF) and pongos (Navy), there is also significant rivalry between the airborne brigade and the line regiments .. the paras call everyone who's not airborne 'crap hats' (in reference to them not having the red beret .. I was RGJ (royal green jackets - now amalgamated into 'the rifles') we used to call para's swan vestas ... since they looked like a little line of red tipped matches .

We used to call the Royal marines CUNT/Ps (said how you'd expect) Combat Under Naval Training/Protection

Also everyone who fights hates the rear echelon .... american's call them REMFs ... we used to call them Jungos - joins up, never goes out

It's all mostly just barbed humor and in reality everyone respects everyone else's service - even with the JUNGOs , the line regiments would soon be fucked if they weren't fed, supplied, and paid

In US-ian, JUNGOs are POGS (Personnel Other than Grunts)(a backronym if I ever heard one) in American military English.

in the uk police they have bongos - books on never goes out - this probably isn't a coincidence given how many vets wind up in the cops

Wait, I'm confused, I thought the US ARMY was just the encompassing structure, the Marines, Navy, and Air Force are just the three sections?

Nope, the Department of Defense is the overarching structure, but there's a Department of the Army, Department of the Air Force, and Department of the Navy. The Marines fall under the Department of the Navy, something our sailor brethren like to remind us of, to which it is traditional to reply "Yes, the Men's Department". The general term for people in the Army is "soldier", the general term for people in the Air Force is "airman" (although that one confuses me because it's also the most basic rank, you'd have to ask @Wreybies if someone would say "Get your ass over here, airman" to a person of indeterminate rank), Navy personnel are "sailors," and members of the Marine Corps are "Marines." And yes, we do insist on the capitalization, as it's considered something you become and remain for the rest of your life, not a job that you did for a few years.

I remember it goes a bit like this:

    Marines: Jarheads/Devil Dogs
    Army: Soldiers/Troopers
    Navy: Seaman/Sailors
    Air Force: Zoomies

But yeah the Navy and Air Force ranking systems confuse me. o_O

The worst thing about Air Force rank is that their chevrons are right-side up.

A large hairy spider crawls across a man's barely waking form

Marine: Kills spider with burst of gunfire
Marine force recon : Engages spider in unarmed combat, impales it on Kbar
Army: Calls an air strike on spider
Army Ranger : kills spider, eats it
Army Special forces: Wins heart and mind of spider, trains it to become arachnid militia
Navy : kills spider with a twenty minute bombardment
Air force : "Hello, reception ? There's a spider in my room, what kind of establishment is this ?"

They said of the SeaBees (Naval Construction Battalions) that you could always tell when they'd finished building a base, port, airstrip, or whatever. The movie theater goes in last, but it always goes in.

I'm so thankful to Andrex for including 'How to use' instructions on their packs of toilet rolls. All this time and I've been wiping my arse with my bare hands and then using the toilet paper to clean my hands!
