The Flagellation, yeah, I created a thread because I wasn't sure where to put the fact I was hurting myself by watching Hoarders on Amazon prime. :p

This month is the Islamic month, Ramadan. It is the month of fast. Every Muslim who is not sick or weak is obligated from God to fast.

During a few years I was not able to fast (due to my stomach weakness), though I was very wishful to fast, because it has some wonderful effects on body and spirit.

Despite the difficulty that it has (hunger and thirst) it brings an amazing relaxation and sureness.

Fortunately, this year I could fast and it is five days that I’m fasting. My stomach is empty of food and water but my brain, heart, vessels and all other internal organs are resting. The harmful substances (such as fat) that have been accumulated in my organs are removed from my body, gradually.

Now, I feel I am light and happy. My power of hearing, seeing and other senses are going to be enhanced and my sensitiveness to emotional things is reduced, among depression and anxieties. In this situation, my wisdom, memory and will are reinforcing and my fear of unknown things in the future is going away.

However, fasting has some hardness (hunger and thirst, occasionally) along with a nice feeling of relaxation and happiness that no medicine or man-made exercise can create the same. Actually, this state is not describable. I am very happy and request God to give me this chance to fast the next days of the month.

Well, picked up Mega Man Legacy Collection 1+2 for the switch, :) . I already had it for the PS4 but I really wanted it for the switch, because you know the switch. Also Megan Man has a new ability, Time reversal, he can rewind time at will. :p . For a clutz like me that's pretty nice, what I beat all these guys years ago, just not the game. :p

I'm amazed that Muslims are able to do this. I could probably go without eating all day, but not even a sip of water? No way I'd have the strength.

Ha, it is difficult. Way back when I was training to become a Yogi (An Indian holy man), we were taught to fast and many people went days to a week or two without touching anything. Only meditation an Yoga was allowed. Longest I went was two days.

Will say that, while I wasn't all too keen on the "holy" part of being a Yogi, the meditation and Yoga did wonders.

Finished building a website about the Marathon games. Well, not completely, but I've written most of the necessary content. Still have to clean up the CSS sheets, fix a SlickNav error, add a few screenshots, and find a decent-looking background, but it's shaping up from the site I turned into school last month.

I love that this, to me, might as well be from a sci-fi novel. For being the age that I am, I should be more computer literate.

I'll get my paycheck in two days!

I've only have 1£ to my name and that is slightly stressful, even if I don't really need to spend any money until Friday.

The plane leaves for my holiday in 24 hours!

Holidays are still very exciting to me. I grew up pretty poor (not in poverty but hand-to-mouth) and only started having holidays a few years ago, when I was earning my own money. And this will be my first time in Portugal!

Good luck! I am sure you will love it.

I was married on the Swedish Embassy in Lisbon, almost 40 years ago.

It was a little complicated. My wife was then a Finnish citizen. We didn't want a big wedding so we couldn’t marry in Sweden or Finland. If we had both been Swedish citizens it would have been easier but as it was we only had four options:

The harbour priest of the Swedish church in Piraeus (Greece).

Swedish Embassy in Paris (very popular so we would have had to wait a year)
Swedish Embassy in London (but you have to be in England 3 weeks prior)
    Swedish Embassy in Lisbon.

We backpacked on InterRail passes down to Lisbon.

    Parallel story.
The Swedish ambassador in Lisbon was going to retire. He had a indoor cat (Siamese?) and was arguing with Swedish authorities. As this cat never left his residence he wanted to take it to Sweden without having it in two months quarantine. This had been in the press for several months.

The ambassador was from Gothenburg, he was a respected man in that town. So the local newspaper in Gothenburg (Göteborgsposten) thought this, the cat and him retiering, could be something for their readers. They had sent a reporter and photographer to Lisbon.

And here the two threads combine.

When we arrived to the embassy the press was there (well the reporter and the photographer at least). The photographer acted as wedding witness. A few days later we were on the front page of Göteborgsposten. Lisbon will always have a special place in my heart.

Forgot my lunch today and had to work one and a half hour overtime today :dead:

With only about a pound on my bank account and an hour to the train home my father was kind enough to treat me to a sub :-D

I only have two classes and a fieldschool left for my major! Because I did an internship, I get to use internship credits for fall and winter semester next year so I only have to take one course each of those semesters!

This also means that during the winter semester I get to choose whatever classes I want! The one I'm looking forward to includes the study of mythology, folktales, etc. in an anthropological context! Woo-hoo!

Looked out the window this morning while I was waiting for the coffee to brew and saw one of the cats using a gopher hole as a litter box. It's going to be an awesome day.

    Hi lain

This ability exists in all of we humans. We just must believe! Also God helps those who fast to tolerate the difficulties of the hunger and thirst and then we will experience one of its rewards in this world.

Of course fasting without believe in God can be just a hard aimlessly exercise, but the health that it brings for body is undeniable.

Tomorrow by this time I will be sitting at my balcony with a raspberry mojito in my hand!

Or to be honest, that's probably an hour ago. By this time me and Lost will be watching a movie having proper long distance Fredagsmys.
