emmagherd GW just went back over 6k ... they're comin out of the walls man.... I want you to fall back by squads and lay down suppressing fire with the flames... Apone ? ......Apone answer me goddamit.... for Apone read @Wreybies
Oh, gosh, really? As if I didn't have enough to do . . . A few weeks ago I noticed a new member had posted a writing-related question in the Lounge and made the mistake of asking him if he wanted me to move it. He didn't get the hint. No, he said blithely, he was happy with it where it was. Foolish of me. Next time I'll just swoop in and waft it away.
@big soft moose, remind me: For the General Writing clean-up, we compose a reply suggesting where to put the errant thread and tag @Wreybies? (I need sleep. My brain is mush.)
That sounds like a lot of work for Wrey. :/ Last time we reported the threads and suggested where they should go. Mods, can you confirm?
I would say that reports are better (visible to all mods, without flooding anyone's inbox), but it should only be used after confirmation that one of us will deal with it. Personally I'm without access to a computer until Friday so I will not be able to do it, though
I've been away so late to this Last time we only tagged wrey in threads to be made into resources. Wrey subsequently nominated me resources monitor (although i didnt get a special hat like the one i got at school as blackboard monitor ...I R disapoint ) and I did the conversions, with wrey only having to tidy up the deletion of converted threads. That being the case this time round you could tag me , or hey convert them yourselves, its not difficult.
Hey volunteer peeps By the beneficence of the almighty Daniel, may Cerberus bless his luscious toe nails, we have access to the top quartile so we can move stuff without increasing mod workload, so project empty the bucket (and while we're at it tidy up the setting forum, which has a lot that belongs to character or plot in it) is back on. I've just moved 16 threads and dropped GW back under the 6k mark, but I'm sure there are more. Per the above if anyone find a thread that should be a resource, in order to avoid bumping lots back to the top, either create the resource yourself, or if you can't /don't want to drop me a pm with the link ....
Also remember that we have 'by writing form' section now for questions of structure and revision which we didn't have on the first cut... there's probably a fair few we can move to there from GW (currently at 5974 down from 6k and I'm only on page 3 - it is what it is but it would be great if we could get it down to 5500 )
It's so Fluffeh I could die .... I think this is as good as its going to get unless new categories are created, most of what's in there now is 'structure of writing'- plotting vs pantsing etc, 'actions' - how do I write sex/fighting/argument/blah, and 'legalities' - mostly copyright. we could also do with sub categories in 'by writing form' for scripts& screenplay and for non fiction (I dropped all that into the by writing form top forum). The only other way to reduce GW would be a session of deleting all the one post threads along the lines of "I can has writing book - help' and 'How do I write novel". However I doubt Daniel would give me the power to delete and it would be a big draw on mod work load so probably not gonna happen. my next mission is to sort out plot/character/ and setting which are all muddled up ....something tell me this is going to be a forth bridge job (unless @Wreybies wants something else done)
Dude, there's another milestone here. I think this is a first EVAH for this section of the forum. General Writing is no longer the biggest subforum up there.
I'll make a note when sorting out plot, character, and setting not to drop any of them under the GW number
In the last four months general writing had crept back up to circa 5,500 ...despite the best efforts to keep it under control, so in the last few days I've had another crack at it (aided by the additional categories Wrey and Daniel have created) I reckon that with patience I can get it lower than a Maserati (as Nickelback say) , but this is a good start
See I always get that exact feeling. Though usually I catch the odd newb posting Workshop Related material outside the Workshop or the Blog arenas. It's weird where they want to post their chapters at.
That stems from one of two things 1) they didn't understand where to put it … you can address that as a established member by gently reminding them about the rules and pointing them at the new member thread , or 2) they know fine well what the rules are but have decided fuck the restrictions i'll post where I want - report those suckers and let wrey and co delete them lately ive also seen (and moved) a slew of non workshop related threads being posted in the workshop - that's harder to understand since anyone with workshop access must've been here long enough to understand how it works
I'd say report both cases. We don't want stray Workshop content laying around outside the Workshop (whether it was posted there intentionally or not). In the case of no. 1 we'd just delete the thread and send a friendly message to the member in question, or move the thread to the Workshop if they actually meet the reqs.
I think we may finally have got all the 'fuck the rules' content in the GW forum … i'm still finding 'do my homework' threads even on third pass though (still at least these days I & I assume the other volunteers can move stuff from GW and the top quartile generally and only have to report and ask when deletion is needed.)
