    Ideas for a fantasy/scifi drug

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Write4Fun22, Jun 22, 2018.

I need some inspiration for creating a super drug that descends from the amazon and I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Btw ..the mc is supposed to be an American soldier who's half Caucasian and half Latin American/South American.

Thanks to those who can help contribute.

YOu could go several ways with this . . . an unscientific approach - locals find a strange plant, make it into a brew - hey presto super strength. Or you could go, scientific team on the search for new plant materials / animals etc, like the spiderweb, a small animal that secretes silk like material . . .

I saw a documentary where a team built scaffolding in the amazon rain forest and found a myriad of differnent creatures and plants (plants living on plants) at various heights.

Or am i way off track as to what you are asking?

Cool thanks! Yeah this is good. I think I like the scientific team better cause it might open up more possibilities into the story and world building for me.

Do you know where in the Amazon they found these strange plants/creatures? Was it Peru? Brazil? Colombia?

Freezing biological functions is a VERY interesting area of science. The most obvious being using the cold to freeze. But that is not the only way. Reduced metabolism for example hibernating bears. So maybe a drug that causes the soldiers metabolism, for all intent and purposes, freezes. So he neither ages nor dies. You don’t have to be too scientific and can easily miss out the impossible bits, and just presume.

Maybe stick away from spider webs - that's been done to death!

Sorry man, I edited deleted the time freeze post!

I wasn't sure if it was a dumb idea or not but yes that definitely could work for the time freeze plot! I just don't want the usual Austin Powers/Captain America cause my idea of getting trapped or frozen in a web or cold frozen test machine sounded too similar. I think the drug metabolism would work best! If the drug reduces and works as a metabolic dysfunction, I could see that causing his body to freeze and become solitary and non mobile for a while, which explain him not aging until awakened. I like this much better than the cold freeze idea.

And yep the spider web producing thing has been done enough times! There's probably enough plants and creatures to obtain the drug from for me to explore more into.

Some came to mind on the way home.....
    - Tree sap that engulfs/traps him - provides the necessary drugs and nutrients
    - Mutated silk worm, he gets trapped in, the silk worm wraps him up, and again it provides the drugs nutrients
    - He falls through hole in the ground (however you want that created)
    - The science team tests out their new drug on him, accidentally putting him in the coma.

Oh wow that I'll have to think of. They all make for great possibilities. Considering the direction of my story, the science team that accidentally puts him in coma fits nicely but so does the tree and hole.

I got it, my ideas based on mutated silkworm and/or team scientists would fit perfectly now that I realize it. Thanks!
