My best ideas come to me when I'm: 1. In the bathroom 2. Staring into nothingness 3. Staring out a window. 4.Staring at my W.I.P Since I usually have my phone during these moments, I'd type a note to myself. I usually come back to these notes, since I have to be attached to a story idea in order to go through with it. I have to think it over and over: I can't have a random, fresh idea and say " Yes, I'm gonna do that"
Yeah, I do that all the time. I usually write on the back of the convenience store receipt I get during the day.
I've tried to write notes to myself, but I have a really bad habit of throwing away loose papers in my pockets. When I'm at home, though, I'll type them up on my computer or on my phone (since sometimes they come to me when I'm in the tub). I do fail at this, but luckily my memory's pretty good so I can always write the idea down when I get home.
I don't do this, but I kinda wanna start doing it. I have countless daydreams in my head that could be a good potential story. I have no idea how many daydreams that I'd forgotten because I didn't write it down...I do write tiny excerpts when I'm feeling productive though! The way you do it seems to be nice. It's like a "Pick a random idea from the hat" or something. There's some resources for some good writing prompts right there!
If I don't have access to my phone (while at work) I try my best to picture the story or idea, and then type it out when I get home. Keeping ideas in my head is good practice. If it's compelling enough I won't forget, unless I'm physically tired. Today I got an idea about a grim dark romance story set in a fictional 16th century. I've already written one thousand wards. I decided to take a break from my main WIP.
