Methods for Converting a Role Play Into a More "Book" Format?

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Cocomere, Aug 7, 2018.

Hey, so I have a pretty lengthy role play that I'd like to take a try and converting into a less...awkward format. I'm personally not bothered by it, but non-role players might find it a confusing and unfun to read through.

A few things: this is mostly for myself, my partner, and a few friends who I'd like to share my world with. I'm really not looking to get published at this time. Secondly, it's an original world and characters--not an existing IP or anything like that. This is also more of a "fun" side project, not something I'm taking overly seriously.

I also have various snippets of scenes and other info important to the plot and world that I'd need to create whole scenes around, as they are referenced later. I have everything saved, excluding a single post (among thousands) that got overlooked and some chatter that was lost when Skype decided to limit how long they would save chat logs for.

I do understand that I'll need to go through and rewrite pretty much the entire thing to keep a more consistent narrative, however...I'm just not sure where to start with that. If anyone has any ideas that they think might be helpful, I'd be really happy to hear them.

Start at the beginning? I'm more of a 'linear' writer myself, but if you just start at what (chronologically) is the beginning and work your way through, that would be a process.

That's a good idea. There are actually about...4 different logs? Some of them are unfinished, some are AUs that directly tie into the main plot (prophetic dreams are fun to work with!), and some are actually fully finished and have a distinct end to that 'arc'. I had started with the real meat of the logs, the 780+ page one. I should probably begin with the actual beginning.
