    Hand size rant

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Kevin Teichman, Aug 20, 2018.

Can someone tell me why this is?

To start out, I am a miserable 5’8”.

Almost all men I know have bigger hands than I do. When I work at my granddad’s store, many customers (who are mostly men) May have their hands on the counter for a moment or two when I am writing a sales receipt. It is then I notice that he once more they have bigger hands. I can’t remember the last time I actually had bigger hands than someone. And it does not matter how tall they are. It is quite humiliating sometimes.

The only guy I know who I know my hands are bigger than is my half-wit cousin.

Hm. Well this is going to be a gay reply to your rant, so take it for what it is.

Hand size isn't a thing I care about. My hubby, who stands a good six inches shorter than I do - and I'm only 5'7" myself - has bigger hands than I do. I don't have tiny hands (I wear a medium sized glove), he just has really big hands. It's not something that registers though. As someone who has an appreciation of men, on an aesthetic level, I care much more about shape than size, my preference being square hands. Tapered hands, "piano" hands, etc. don't work for me. Square hands are pragmatic and assured. They are reliable and dependable. All of that is nonsense, of course, because hands are hands, not people, but that's what I see when I see square hands.

If there's anything on my body that makes me regret comparisons, it's my wrists. Some guys have forearms that remain thick all the way to the hand, and some guys have a quick quick taper a little past the halfway point and it's just skin and bone from there to the hand. I'm the latter. I have "girly wrist syndrome". It makes it hard to shop for watches since the trend has been for obnoxiously large watches that really only work on heavy-wristed guys, not me. :(

Aye, I'm along @Wreybies lines of thinking, it doesn't really matter about hand size. my boyfriend has what I describe as 'sculpted workman's hands' but they are quite delicate for his size, he's 6 foot 4 and I'm 5 foot 2 (so I'm teeny tiny) and I have a wider wrist and chunkier fingers than him. His palms and fingers are bigger than mine but my ring size is like 5 sizes bigger!
I do have a fuss about my hands occassionally though, I must admit. More about whether you can see the tendons working cus my brain thinks this means manly-ness.

I have small hands and they only bother me when I try to play something on the guitar that a long-fingered man could do without shifting positions. And when I'm choking people.

ETA: I also wear women's gloves because they fit easier. I'm not ashamed of this at all. Life is too short.

Maybe I’m really insecure, but it just feels embarrassing and pathetic. I make up for it with world class grip strength, so people can judge if they’d like

If it’s not hand size it’s also height that is discouraging. Being the shortest of my group of friends or the shortest guy in the room sucks. All of my strongman heroes are tall. My business heroes are taller than I am also. Nick Saban and Jeff Bezos are extraordinary people and short though. And I make up in height for great looks, proportion, a wonderful metabolism, and big lift numbers while maintaining a hulking athletic build.

I guess I’m trying too hard to be like people I am not. Meaning I must be “me” and aim to be the very best, and absolutely nothing less.

Another feminine feature of myself are my feet since I have narrow heels and feminine-shaped toes. How do you politely ask a friend for a foot rub?

As a chick who appreciates the male form, two points:

    1.
You're only "a miserable 5'8" if you're the one who's miserable about it. I've dated guys ranging from 5'6" to 6'3" and height means nothing. Being blunt about it, I'm probably more physically demonstrative with guys who are a bit shorter, because getting neck strain from a kiss isn't fun.

    2. I always notice a man's hands, because I like nice hands, but I've never noticed the size of them unless they seem abnormally large. As @Wreybies
said, it's all about the shape of the guys' hands, and I notice how well he maintains them, but not the size of them.

    You've answered your own question.

Tom Cruise has the same problem. It's well known he uses prosthetic hands as the cameras can't pick up his real ones.

As a guy, I have quite large palms and relatively speaking short stubby fingers. Generally thought, I have much larger hands then most. I don’t thinking matters, i personally do not really care about my or others people looks too much.

Interesting thread though. Never really gave hands (mine or others) any thought until now... probsbly will go back to not caring in 10 minutes. Haha

I actually know a guy with big hands who wishes they were small; he actually stated as much to me.

I suppose everyone has something about themselves they wish were different; I wish I had wider hips to balance out my plump rump.

I myself have a lot of feminine features - proto-breasts, bubble-butt, womanly hands and face, plump lips, no Adam's apple, very soft skin etc. I even have a much wider vocal range than my girlfriend, I can actually sound female if I wanted to; my general tone of voice is pretty ambiguous at times.

Actually, when I was a teenager, I was forced to undergo a physical examination so that some officials, who apparently didn't believe by birth-certificate, could determine my actual gender, so I certainly understand you. I'm 5'9 btw, so I suppose I'm at or below average for male stature. :)

Personally, I've come to embrace my oddities and find them a blessing; my girlfriend doesn't mind me saying that I'm prettier than she is, and she actually likes that about me; she's a biker chick anyway and I'm more a goth, so we're an odd couple indeed.

I'd suggest something like this: "Excuse me. Do you think you could possibly find the time to give my feet a rub? Thanks awfully."

It becomes miserable when you’re at an event where there are a ton of guys and you’re shorter than most. Or wanting to be an elite strongman but don’t have the height for it. But, you are right though.

Having bigger hands would make me fit in better (since it seems every guy has bigger hands) and do better in grip training.

Hmmm, how about wrist size? Wrist size is another animal, one which I was thinking about making a thread on (out of frustration, of course).

With the more feminine features, do you lean more towards dressing more feminine too or masculine?

Usually, I'm more of a basic ambiguous dresser, tee shirt and jeans kind of thing. But, I do dress out in feminine attire as well.

I am short 5ft 6, and wear a size small glove (though I can fit an x-small depending
on brand. :p Same with a medium, but it has to be on the smaller end). :p
Have fat fingers though which is kinda weird, and they feel a tad short, but I get on
with them just fine. Just don't ask me to play bass and we will be good. :)
Have those tapered forearms that have been mentioned, but IMHO that looks more
natural and masculine, than the more tube like fat wrists.
As an added bonus because genes have a sick sense of humor, I wear a 10 in shoes. o_O

If it counts for anything, I'm not attracted to tall guys at all. I love guys who are shorter than me. Short, stocky guys are hot. And if you were short and had big hands, your hands would be out of proportion, which would be weird.

I have small hands that are narrow with short fingers and I hate it. I'm not bothered about how they look but if I want to play any instrument bigger than my little concert ukulele it's difficult - and often quite uncomfortable.

Guys think my hands are quite cute, but they're not the ones who have to live with them.

So, yeah - I know the feeling.

I’m 6ft tall. I like guys who are short enough that I have to lean down to kiss them or that they can rest their head in the middle of my chest when standing up :bigoops:

I think being overly vain and "woe is me for my tiny hands" is probably a lot more off-putting than your hand size. As a straight woman, I can't say I've ever noticed people's hands, whether guys or gals. I don't remember my two exes' hands at all. I remember one of their feet though, mostly because he harped on about how he loved feet and which types he found beautiful and how "proud" he was of his rather (ahem) ugly feet. I don't even know what my own husband's hands look like. They're just... hands.

In other words, stop worrying about it. Women (assuming you're straight, and therefore care about what women may like) are usually a lot more attracted towards self-confidence and will forgive the ugliest looks if the guy appears confident and humorous.

5'8'' on a man is short, but here globalisation is your friend. Shop in the Asian market :D (it's a joke, before anyone pounces on it. I happen to be Asian and am an impressive 5'1'') I think my dad's 5'8'' and happily married for 30+ years. Short doesn't have to mean a thing.

... Or to have fantastically marvellously excellent taste in music, which seems to be your case.

Seriously though, I would echo Mckk. I'd personally try not to focus so hard on something that's probably not that important, and which I cannot change.
