Punkpunk. You don't get much punkier than that. As for the OP, no I've never heard of solarpunk. Apparently, it's a type of Cli-fi.
On the plus side, once every book is its own genre we won't have to worry about being seen as derivative. That problem's been defined away! Instead you'll be known as the creative genius who introduced the world to post-reductionist steampunk-inflected Scattergories lit (or whatever).
But *I* wanted to be the creative genius who introduced the world to post-reductionist steampunk-inflected Scattergories lit! I guess I'll just have to settle for post-reductionist steampunk-inflected Pictionary lit...the market's probably just as big.
So, apparently solarpunk is the opposite of my posted movie cover. In fact, what I read of as a description of solarpunk hardly seems... punk.
Reminds me of this quote from Generation X, by Douglas Coupland: musical hairsplitting - the act of classifying music and musicians into pathologically picayune categories: "The Vienna Franks are a good example of urban white acid folk revivalism crossed with ska." (page 85)
Jami Gertz, Jason Patric, Lukas Haas, one of the Deluise Bros., roller skating, and proto-legwarmers. You better cut this post with some baking soda or you're going to O.D. on the 80's-ness.
I have a massive vocabulary. In the seventh grade, I was reading at a twelfth grade level. I can describe the yearning of a heart, or the sound a mountain makes when the wind howls at it. Still, I have no words to describe how unsettled I am with that picture, @Wreybies.
This may make this a necro thread, I just discovered this article. Here is some information about the genre of Solar Punk http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SolarPunk
Interesting. Yeah, that is...not at all punk, of any kind. I don't mean that as a pejorative, I just mean that if the word "punk" has any meaning at all than this genre is a misnomer. Alternatively, the word "punk" may now have no meaning other than as a suffix denoting "this is the name of a genre", in which case I'll just get back to my game of dominoes at the retirement home...
https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/12/617330406665202030/, @WaffleWhale Which is basically how I would have defined it before I looked it up. If everything kind of works, it's just sci-fi. If some Evil Corporation, Incorperated runs everything, and they're ruining everyone's lives somehow, it's cyberpunk.
You betcha! I'm working on an 'Elder-punk' story where a bunch of elderly misfits in a nursing home find a magic swimming-pool that cures them of all their aches and pains, and mayhem ensues. . .
I always thought cyber punk was a subgenre of sci fi that delved with our identity in an online or virtual environment, that other forms were external ( space travel). The punk element being resistance to the monopolising of our identity. Now redundant as we all live online and effectively pay for access with the data from our identity. No more cyber punk.
