Imagine that you story becomes a movie or tv-series. You can't influence casting, but you would like to. Or would you? Can you name and explain or justify who could be good to some role? Protagonists? Antagonists? Contagonists? Shapeshifters? Treshold guardians? Mentors? Tricsters? Something else?
Baker: R. Lee Ermey Millenials themselves? Mag-moeba automatons Seeker: 'Vision' Seeker/Baker Rogue automatons Something else?: Dream entities. (more later)
I love imagining this! Kiera Knightley would be a protagonist of mine, for sure. I've seen her play very similar characters before, and very well.
I'm a screenwriter. For some reason when I'm writing a male character that seems to be the only grown up in the room, I imagine Sam Neill.
The story I'm working on... Honestly to cast it accurately I'd need teenagers for most of the leads, so find some unknowns. Who knows maybe stumble on the next Jennifer Lawrence along the way. But one character in particular I would love to have played by (or voiced by) Charles Dance, and ironically NOT a villain. He's not human though, he's an AI, so he'd be voicing it instead of playing the character outright. The villain, who is an adult, would also be voiced since she's not exactly human either, I would love to see Tara Strong because the idea of this kind of sweet, princess-y voice coming from this kind of inhuman-but-still-hot plant cyborg thing would be interesting.
Given that I have been favouring games over live action anything, I am rather out of touch with actors in film, younger ones especially. For this reason, I'll look at voice actors. For Dragomir I would like a Slavic actor, since his heritage is a plot point. For Iris, his female counterpart, I wouldn't mind Stephanie Sheh as her voice if it were animated/CGI. In a similar vein, I would like Paul Amos voicing my rendition of Lucifer, since I see some veins in Jacob Frye in the personality he presents (caring when it counts but loves to stir the pot). Lilith had a small, but significant role as a foster motherly figure, so possibly Jo Wyatt, who voices Alicia in Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. In my first draft of her they talk a lot alike and I didn't realise until I began playing the game again. I think for one antagonist I have I would like Cam Clarke or James Arnold Taylor. They have played villains who act similarly. I'll come back when I think of others.
Pretty much everyone in my story dies, so I can't think of anyone other than Sean Bean. Protagonist: Sean Bean. Antagonist: Sean Bean with a mustache. Lady Hamlet: Bam! Sean Bean in a dress. Not only that, but Sean Bean is a pretty phenomenal actor, so I'm pretty sure he's be one of very few actors that could pull that casting off and now I'm going to have to write in a Bean on Bean love scene.
My old man character should be in his early 60s. I'd pick either Robert Duvall or Max Von Sydow at that age for that role. My young boy is about eleven or twelve. It's hard to find known actors that age, so he would probably have to be an unknown. If he has to be a known actor, probably Noah Hathaway when he was in The NeverEnding Story is close. The woman would, of course, be Jodie Foster at the age of about 40. Let's face it: all women in my stories should be Jodie Foster. She rules.
Protagonists? Sean Astin, circa 10-ish years ago, would be a shoe-in for Brenn. Charlie Hunnam would be great as Tevin, blond hottie and sailor extraordinaire love interest of Brenn. Antagonists? Aidan Turner would be perfect for William, Tevin's tortured brother. Give me some Gabriel Byrne as Brenn's hotheaded, unpredictable uncle. Contagonists? Mmm... Madeleine Stowe as Lady Petla, Brenn's mother and matriarch of the grand family. I love her poise. She'd be perfect. Shapeshifters? Ain't got none o'these. Threshold guardians? This character is a dolphin in my story, so... dolphin. Mentors? That would be Tevin's dad, and I would love Sean Bean for that role. He's gonna' die, so Sean's the man! (@The Dapper Hooligan) Tricksters? Mmmm.... don't know. Not sure.
I have a Christmas Story where Santa Claus is a recluse and comes back after centuries of not coming out in public; and I have it set in a NYC courtroom because Santa Claus was on his way to the UN before finding someone's home in Long Island and trespassing innocently unaware this was frowned upon... I want the mother of the family who's probably going to have a Mom, Dad and young daughter, I want the mother to be played by Jane Leves. It will be their house Santa Claus was trespassing in. If I get her, I'd write this character to have a bigger part. I saw Miracle on 34th Street (1994) this week to see if my story was copying it; it wasn't, but Janes Leves was one of many I was pleased to see in this film, and, having a Santa Claus NYC Courtroom story of my own; I'd like to have an Easter Egg for my Christmas Story as a nod to Miracle on 34th Street, and have this actress. That said, it's 2018, and I'd be better off wanting Mara Wilson to play this role, but, if it were up to me, it'll be 1996 again only I'd be the age I am now (but it's not).
Protagonists? The Rock - he can do anything, can be funny, can be strong, charming, terrifying, anything that's needed! And Lupita Nyongo, she needs to get more parts. Antagonists? The kid cast of Harry Potter, that will be fun. Let's make them evil ! Contagonists? Wut? Nobody has time for that. Shapeshifters? Jim Carrey. Do I need to explain? Treshold guardians? Brian Blessed. That voice! Mentors? Bette Davis, resurrected via cgi. Those things are trendy. Tricsters? Tom Hiddleston and Eva Green. Perfect fit. Something else? Peter Dinklage to put in a short appearance...
Jessica "Dower" - Dania Ramirez For my two parter Rose Dower / Jessica Halloween/Sci Fi story of two heroines adopted mother daughter witch hunt time travelling scientist story.
I’ve literally described a character to one of my beta readers as a “big, Jason Momoa-looking mother****er” So probably him.
