Okay, I laughed. I shouldn't laugh at rejection. But I did. Sue me.

Yep, me too, although to be fair Mat has a very humorous way of writing things sometimes.

Don't let anybody tell you the personal rejection is better. They are worse. REMEMBER this is war. This is not the place for 200 words, the same 200 repeated to wife/mother/taxi driver and you know they must have liked it a lot and I am certain and sure that yeah next time, next time he said, he said put his name on the letter and yeah his name can you believe his name. I don't know it's on file somewhere maybe it's James what do you think editors some editors have all kinds of names but he really he said he really he said he liked it and he wanted to publish it and he was going to but he changed his mind he said he said he felt sick something I wrote I don't know some word maybe it was you asshole editor no of course I didn't write that but next time yeah love you.

Almost seems to be the story of my life.

To switch things up a bit I submitted to an anthology. This place has put out a few other books, none of which seem to be all that popular, but they pay a decent amount. I have no idea how competitive things like this are. Have any of you tried the anthology market?

Anthology? No, hardly started this thing.
I have finally finished my second story and have been hard at the formatting, which is slightly different than the lit mags.
Do you guys double space your stories with an actual extra space or just use Word to space everything at 2.0? I actually put an extra space in between and sometimes it all gets screwed up if I happen to alter something at the start. Did that today and spent the next hour correcting everything.
Have now sent it to Fantasy & Science Fiction. Hopefully they like my style, which is a bit different. I think the story isn't too bad.
    Anyway, see what happens.
Have heard nothing from Glimmer or TH on my first so will probably send it out again to a few more lit mags in November.

    @Krispee

    Word/page layout/paragraph.

    ...

I'm in an anthology - celebrating 10 years of a magazine.

Currently enduring the 'in-progress' illusion/fantasy. 'Oh, another day, they must be reading it again.'

Cheers, I will look into that.

Looking up anthology it seems to be something you celebrate, especially as an author. Perhaps in reality it isn't as valued?

    Um, no.
So you can pay to be in an anthology? I thought it was only if you were asked to be included, someone notices your published story and says, can I include your story in my book of lots of stories?

Perfect, deleted all my scribble, only the wisest line remains. Born to edit.

Isn't that true of all writers?

The, 'it's the same as book' part is confusing me dude.

I may be wrong (okay, I admit it) but I always thought an 'anthology' was a collection of previously published work. Is that right?

    A speedy 1-day form rejection from Asimov's.

Just to clear things up about anthologies. There are some like The Best American series and The Pushcart Prize that are very prestigious. For those, magazine and journals submit there best published pieces for the year. It's pretty much out of the writer's hands. But an anthology can also be like a collection of short stories by different authors. The one I submitted to pays its writers about $200 to $300. So, I gave it a shot.

Wow, one day? I thought these guys had a lot of stories to get through.

Interesting to hear about Anthologies, not something I've heard much about, and obviously not something that that concerns me at the moment.

Some of these places are super fast. Watch, this same story will likely be rejected tomorrow or the next day from the place I tried today.

Speaking of trying I have sent out 23 submissions in the last 23 days. I've always wanted to try and send out enough submissions in a month that it equalled one a day. I'm sending out a batch in the mail tomorrow, but I'll still have to send out a few more to reach my silly goal.

I don't think, even if I was writing full time, that I could write that fast.

Glimmer are a no go for Funnel. I've always thought that a nice name for a magazine.

Keep trying @Krispee. You've got a good story there. Don't give up on it. Some one will buy it! But sometimes it really takes more tries than it should seem to. But you're in the game now, and I would totally bet on you. :)

Thanks, don't worry, I'll keep trying, haven't given up on this one yet. I will try a few more lit mags first.
