Mhmm. I’ve got a few I really quite like. But I think my favourite is “Vae Victis” (woe to the vanquished). Mostly because it was supposedly said by Brennus when he sacked Rome. According to the legend, the romans were made to pay and exorbitant amount of gold. When they were weighing the gold, the romans complained that the gold weights used to measure were too heavy and unfair. So Brennus - the leader to the invading Gallic force - drew his sword and threw the scales and shouted: “Vae Victis!” And the romans were made to add even more gold to balance the scales. I like it because it is one of the few romans quotes whose origins come from a major and humiliating Roman defeat. One of the few. Another one which is very similar in origins is: Quintili Vare! legiones redde! (Quintilian varrus! Give me back my legions!)
