Blindspot was another one of those might be interesting shows that I never actually checked out. I`d seen a trailer for it, and after catching up with Brookyln Nine-Nine needed something while I waited for Daredevil to drop and Mindhunters wasn`t working for some reason (I know multiple people who have worked on that show and still haven`t watched it. I feel great shame) so I started it and it`s a very good binge that know how to suck you in. However I think a main reason I am so sucked in is the mystery element and unraveling all the threads. Not to say the writers can`t keep building on top of that, but there`s four seasons and counting the main mystery has to become clear at some point and will following along be as compelling after that? Dragging it out would get even less compelling, look at Blacklist. I do wonder how they make the premise work for four seasons. Daredevil has dropped and it is as steady a entry into Marvel Netflix land as it always is. The Karen and Foggy stuffs kinda flat, but i`m not very far in and they don`t have much to do while the main focus is on Matt and The Kingpin. If they ever get much to do we`ll see. I`ve always found Daredevils tackling of faith to be interesting, and they came right out of the gate with that this season. Saw some of that new Titans show to....don`t want to talk about that...... it wasn`t great. Acting wasn`t great, pacing was wonky, while some of the visual effects may be cool they look so out of place compared to everything else in the world, and it`s very dark and edgy. Don`t get me wrong there`s nothing wrong with that, but it`s there trying to tell a darker story or a story with darker tones as it is they just want to come off as darker and violent. Maybe they think the brand is to tied to kids programming and there trying to be the opposite of that but they could actually take some pointers from the first cartoon in telling a solid and mature story even if it is a cartoon.
Mrs. A and I have been playing catchup on Criminal Minds. Not a bad show, but the fact that the bad guy isn't revealed until the very end of each episode (not that the bad guy isn't identified from an array of possibles, like in most mysteries, but doesn't even appear on screen in most cases) is starting to wear. No challenge in trying to figure it out if it'll be shown that the murder was committed by Mr. Davies, in the Garden, and you're staring at your Clue(do) board in puzzlement and rage.
So we heard about the rage on Henry Cavil in the Witcher? Honestly, I wish people who take early release screen tests and on-set images less judgementally but there seems to be a big thing now that people complain about costuming of characters in adaptions of things they like based on those limited sources.
To be fair, if the quality really isn't the same as it will be on release, they shouldn't have intentionally released it like that, it gives the wrong impression.
True. It doesn't look that bad anyway. As people have pointed out, a lot of people are judging him based on the video game rather than the book description which is what they're using. It's an independent adaption.
Yeah, only 4 episodes in but I'm liking it too. Was surprised by how heavy they went on the horror/occult stuff, which gives all the humor a kind of uncomfortable edge. It's a fine line but they mostly pull it off. Kiernan Shipka does a good job too, although seeing Don Draper's daughter in this more grown-up role does make me feel pretty old.
Anyone seen the British Supersizers documentary series? The two main people, including Sue Perkins(!), experiment with different historical diets and aspects of lifestyle and they've got some quite interesting history involved. Plus every scene is punctuated with wonderful British snark. 10/10.
I just finished the first (so far only) season of You on Lifetime. I liked it a lot. A bit dark and easy to suspend my disbelief and knowledge of technology. Plus the MC runs a bookstore and restores old books.
So much to watch so little time. Been bopping around from show to show. Started watching Deathnote again. Had watched it before but never finished it, and forgotten a lot of it. Up to the point where Spoiler Light dies and that seemed like a good enough point to take a break and go start the new (and probably last) season. The funny thing about all these Netflix Marvel shows getting one last season before being cut is the ones that clearly set up for more. I get they were probably mostly written before the cutting happend but still. Bittersweet ends.
I watched Deathnote the movie, but I heard that it was sub-par compared to the series. I enjoyed the movie though. My current shows: -Grey's Anatomy -Marvel's Runaways -The Gifted Hubs and I just finished How I Met Your Mother (we didn't watch it when it originally aired, but it's all on Hulu!) and we loved it. Our new show to watch together (catching up on another old one we didn't see as it aired) is Stargate: SG-1. Reminds me of Star Trek: TNG but with it's own spin. Sometimes corny, but pretty good overall!
I`ve been doing the same thing with SG-1, watched the film (I quite enjoy James Spader) but always just had the series on the to watch list. The movies good drags a bit, the shows even better than the film though. Despite being mostly different actors. It can indeed have it`s corny moments but that`s kinda being a product of it`s time (late ninteys early two thousands) too. TNG had it`s share of corny moments especially in the beginning as did most shows of the time. Buffy The Vampire Slayer`s a good example of this to. As someone quite fond of mythology, anthropology, history, and stuff like that I`m quite fond of the amount those things play into SG-1. I`m also a fan of good old SFI adventure and the show delivers on that to.
@Kinzvlle Yeah, at first I didn't even realize they'd changed some of the actors bc I hadn't seen the movie in so long. But we are quite enjoying it, on Season 2 now. And yeah, wow did TNG have its corny moments! It's totally that 90s-era TV flavor though. We too, are enjoying the mix of mythology and sci-fi. Makes for a fascinating combo. Worth the watch!
Did you ever watch My Name is Earl? The writers knew it was being cancelled, so they ended on a cliffhanger. Nice move.
I remember it, watched a few spare episodes of it. Didn`t know it ended on a cliff hanger purposefully that`s great.
I remember this very first description of Geralt from Sword of Destiny: "After the hands then appeared, in turn, a head of white hair streaked with brick dust, a pale face, and a sword hilt projecting above the shoulders. Apart from his weapon of choice, he looked a lot like Legolas." I haven't played the games, though I've seen clips. I was first introduced to Geralt in The Last Wish cos it was the only translated Witcher book back then. Absolutely loved it, and when the games came out, in 1 and 2 he looked quite a lot the way I imagined him. In the 3rd one he's aged a little strangely, but it's still a pretty good interpretation, imo. The teaser for the Netflix show they released was pretty awful cos it looked so fake, like a costume in a play at some community theater, and Cavil's chin cleft isn't really working for me, lol. Ciri's actress looks absolutely spot on, a lot like how I imagined her even without her outfit and make-up. Anya Chalotra seems too young (she's born in 1996) but could match the description of Yennefer with some make-up: Spoiler A pale triangular face, violet eyes and narrow, slightly contorted lips appeared beneath the black tresses. He saw her left shoulder, slightly higher than her right. Her nose, slightly too long. Her lips, a touch too narrow. Her chin, receding a little too much. Her brows a little too irregular. I'm fairly sure they could've found a better match (like Lara Pulver, but of course even if someone looks exactly the part it doesn't mean they'd be able to take the role or even embody the character), but I guess this could also be the entertainment industry discriminating against "older" women once again. Yennefer always came across pretty mature and in no way girlish, so we'll see how an actress that young can pull her role off. I'll definitely want to watch the show cos I really enjoyed the books, so who knows, maybe they'll be able to capture its magic, and the darker tones in particular. Or, alternatively, they will somehow make it bland and boring... In this golden age of cultural appropriation, I can somehow see the Poles at Projekt CD Red doing a better job at adapting a Polish IP than a bunch of Americans, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I haven't watched the Polish TV series, maybe I would if I found a subtitled version, so I've no idea how good or bad it is. Yen definitely seems to be of appropriate age and Geralt isn't too weird looking.
We got Netflix, I just watched the first two episodes of Orange is the New Black. Is American Pie douchebro going to be a major thing through this whole series?
Currently watching loads of fantasy poop. And other poop for good measure. Just discovered Shadowhunters so we've started watching the first series of that - it's appalling. Funny in a way, the acting's so stilted and the 'special effects' are laughable (we think they bought their magic blades from Poundland, they look just like the plastic kids ones you can get there - they even wobble when brandished) but I cut anything with a bit of magic and escapism in it lots of extra slack. I've read a couple of the books. Good fun. Gotham. This series has been better - I like the shift to anarchy, and the different sectors, reminds me of The Warriors. I just love the visuals too, even if the storytelling is pants. It's like watching the comic book. Van Helsing is getting really dull. All bloody old boring vampires going 'Rahhh, kill them, rahh'. Yawn. Lets get back to the interesting stuff please. The Passage is a bit more promising so far as vampy stuff goes. Liking the creepy supernatural / psychological element. Makes a change from 'Rahh kill them' all the time. True Detective looks to be another goodie this series, better than the dud we had last time. More of a folk horror vibe again this time. There's probably other stuff we've got on the boil. But those are the ones that stick out.
It`s been a while since I watched it, still need to watch the newer series. Is douchebro the boyfriend, or the young guard? The boyfriend`s role changes. I feel like he was in season two much less, idk about going forward. Donna from That 70`s Show is great in that.
He's the MC's boyfriend. Donna from That 70s show pops up? Cool...I'm still enjoying the girl from The Slums of Beverly Hills/Six Feet Under being in it.
She doesn`t just pop up she becomes one of the main characters and a primary love interest of sorts. It`s a great show.
I don't watch many tv-shows, but gave Titans a go on Netflix. It's based on Teen Titans from DC Comics, but pretty damn dark at times, and quite mature. People get brutally murdered and mauled, and, well, "F*** Batman". The first episode was somewhat boring, but showed enough potential to keep me interested in another episode. And by the end of episode 2, I was hooked. It's not a perfect show or anything, and as a micro spoiler, the season finale felt for the most part entirely unrelated to the rest of the season. Kinda weird choice, but fortunately it was saved by the last few scenes. The third last episode was entirely with Hawk and Dove, two characters that wasn't in the series at all, except for the second episode. Another weird choice for a story there. Not to mention it's based on Teen Titans, so if you know characters like Starfire and Raven, you kinda know where the story going. But other than that, I loved it, and I'm really looking forward to the next season. Plus, we even got to meet the Doom Patrol, who are getting their own tv-show soon. Really looking forward to that, too.
I'm checking out this brand new South Korean show, Kingdom (Netflix). I'm not entirely convinced as of episode 2, but it's fairly interesting, keeps getting better, and it's the first time in ages that I'm even slightly unnerved by zombies.
