She shoves said friend out of the way so she becomes: star/model/gets rich boyfriend. Instead of shoves, she kills or maims or.......You did not say she was a good character. Just rags to riches.
I like the opposite better "riches to rags". But the character doesn't have to be trying to be rich of famous. It could mean more than those shallow things. The person could be rich in love and people but his actions cause him to lose the ones he loves. You need to work yourself through the block and come up with ideas yourself by thinking out of the box. Best of luck
Poor girl gets pregnant by her best friend's boyfriend during higschool. She loses her best friend and they compete with each other through out life. Only one of them becomes rich and famous and I'll leave that up to you. Hope it is a good muse. It's also up to you what happens to the baby (LOL).
Best friend is her cousin. She murders her grandmother for the millions and only her cousin knows, who is offended by the scheme.
The best friend is the cousin which means it's her granmother too and all she is... is offended? Okaaay. Well, if killing your grandmother isn't a way to lose a best friend, what would make you not friends again. LOL

You must think about your protagonist. What personal skills does she have to make her rich? - Intelligence? - Creativity? - Sex? - Dishonesty? - Something else? What is her motivation to become rich? - Stupidity? - Greed? - Getting rich is a byproduct? - Selfisness? - Something else?
Watch an Episode of Eastenders, google it if you have to, you'd get it. Basically Eastenders and for good measure, from the land down under; Neighbours Make ANY OF THE ABOVE how this girl becomes rich. And also, you might be lucky enough to watch a power struggle on Eastenders between like 3 or 4 or 5 businesses and a market place.
Make it she's a poor girl living in a hostel and her best friend dies who has a family and her dead friends family take in this girl and she's now rich, like Diff'rent Strokes meets Eastenders or something.
Trading Places, this was a brilliant prince and pauper /rags to riches story involving two lives manipulated by a pair of wealthy and powerful old misers of brothers to settle a bet.
I would suggest making your MC a very delusion person, plus make her value superficial things where even friendship doesn't exist. You don't need to had to her a sad or tragic backstory, but try to figure out something on her, is she very attractive? Is she simply crazy? Or even she may actually be ugly but cocky enough to get people to dislike her?
Orphan girl raised by her grandmother who passes away leaving her a trust fund of millions which cant be touched until she hits 21? MC turns 21 and wants to find her childhood best friend who disappeared with her family a couple of years ago (possible relation between best friends parents and MC's parents and sub-plot of why they disappeared and MC's parents died?) so hires a PI to track her down uncovering some sort of shady secret....
Did you hear the one about the rich person who became an author? Tragedy that one is, poor sap lost it all in the end.
