That moment when you're sick of people assuming that Gylfi Sigurdsson is your favourite football player just because you're an Iceland fan.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, and gesundheit, by the way, I never assumed that because I've never heard of Dolphy Sigmundfreuderand and didn't know that Iceland had a football team.

    So:

That moment when you learn that your long-dead grandmother, who was always stern and somewhat distant, wrote a lot of heartbreakingly personal poetry.

Although I may be old and cold in the face
    it is under my lace
    I weep for my grandchild
    Earp, ill-mannered and ungrateful
    slobbers his plateful of beans
    'More beans,' says my Earp
But I love that baby the one
    who maybe
    has a future in computers
    soft wearing his diaper,
yes daughter I will wipe her
I know, I know it's a boy but we can dream
    I mean, Maureen.

That complete and utter FML moment when your football team has an important match, five key players are injured including both of your favourites (one of whom was injured while warming up for the match, by the way), and the only way your team is going to get a goal is if the other guys accidentally put the ball into their own net.

TMW you receive a letter saying that you didn't turn up to a meeting...that you didn't know anything about!

That moment when... You hear a really annoying sound, try to ignore it but it continues so you open one eye and then groan tiredly when you realise it's your alarm clock...

T (translator) MW you tell the client that the document is really hard to follow, and the client responds that yes, it's written in idiomatic Spanish, and you bite your tongue from saying, "No. No, no, no. There's educated Spanish, Common Vernacular Spanish, Idiomatic Spanish, and Garbage Culo Spanish. This document is the last on that list."

That moment your download goes from 32 hours left to 114 hours left... the Weather is nice, so what's the problem! I'm never going to get to play Fallout 76... I'll be old and crusty by the time it finishes.

Edit: apparently the timer is confused on which way it's suppose to go, now it says 115 hrs 29 min

Sometimes I feel like we get ahead of ourselves when it comes to deploying these terms. When the term "robot" started being used all over TV in things like Robot Wars, I was like, that's not a robot. That's a tricked up RC car. It's only lately from Boston Dynamics that I'm seeing things that look like the robots I was promised in Science Fiction. Same deal with "AI". Until it can talk to me better than what Google Translate spits out, that's not AI in my books.

Everyone else's mileage may vary. ;)

Believe me, my friend and I are finally coming to terms with the fact that we're on the linguistic losing side of the "drone" wars. A drone has the ability to carry out a set of pre-programmed commands, or even to make its "own" way back home if it loses signal or something (which is also a set of pre-programmed commands, but more complex in that it has to think its way through them). Thus something like a DJI Mavic is a drone, but a Walkera Ladybird or Rodeo is not, as if you don't tell them what to do, they'll just, depending on the throttle settings and wind conditions, just drop to the ground, hover, or ascend until the battery dies. Most "drones" are properly quad, hex, or octocopters, or simply multirotors, but the idiot public has determined otherwise.
