Magnus in Floating Islands chapter two - "I received the Falcata from a woman in a black cloak who said something about the chosen one, but I didn't really listen because I was happy to have a better tool than a rock for opening coconuts."

"Natural" by definition being "anything that exists as an intrinsic part of the world" ;)

    When Ollivander spent years determining
    • the best woods, cores, and lengths of wands
    • how well each combination worked for different wizards
    • how to look at one wands reaction to one witch or wizard and deduce "what different combination would fit this person better"
Ollivander was spending years using the scientific method to perfect the technology behind the tools he was crafting :)

So for context these two characters are rivals and disagree on foreign policy, and this is late 1590's England.
Essex- "Spain is our enemy. Spain will always be our enemy."
Robert- "Oh, my dear lord of Essex, I had not realised! I had thought the three armadas a friendly gesture! I thank you, as always, for your insight."

I think I have an appropriate edit for this. The second line will now be "some would say you give credit to papist lies". Makes more sense as a reply.

Been looking through some old stuff, and came across this one:

“Unnecessary danger? Unnecessary danger? He was already holding an assault rifle to your head! How much more necessary can it get? Think, woman!”

So... yeah... This is why I don't write about superheroes anymore. :D The story was something about superheroes being regular people, and everyone hates them. One girl used super-speed to stop a guy from robbing the burger joint she works in, only to get fired for putting everyone at risk. The quote was from another hero who got in trouble after stopping a bank robbery.

This is from the prologue of my MC's story, where he is a 10-year-old crowned Prince.

He is standing at a table in his room, a full and detailed map of the Tirvuk region laid out before him. Tiny soldiers represent units, planning his conquests. (which is what the story is about, :p )

"King Zed will be my hardest opponent, damn, I will need both lords for this one, hmph... but how? damn my cursed age, I will have wait till I am order to put my plans into motion. That gives me enemy way to much time on my lands,"

(Now this is a rough, bare in mind. :p , rough in I thought it up about an hour ago. :p )

Little background, the MC is preparing (fraudulent) "spiritual energy drinks", chi balancers, and other such snake oil by taping pictures to big plastic bottles of tapwater. His friend observes him taping a printout of the Dalai Lama to one of the jugs.

    "Why the Dalai Lama?"

"Well, this one's for calming, and he's the calmest motherfucker I know. I was going to use Nic Cage's picture on the energy drink, but then I thought holy shit, what if this stuff actually works? No way I was going to be responsible for that kind of mess."

A theologian explaining why he prefers the company of ordinary people to that of of other theologians:

"The people who have the answers are never as interesting as the people who have the questions.”

On consoling someone on the death of a pet:

"When God considers what friends you've had, and what kind of friends you've been for them, He doesn't count feet."

Well, this is going to be two-fold, but each have something to do with a prison break out.

    Getting spotted:

Corrupt Guard: What are you whores doing outside of your prison cells?!
Stacie: We're ready to escape! What does it look like?

    When describing the Warden:

Dave: A-all... right. W-we'll have to be careful. We're a small flock of canaries, and she's the hawk.

More lines from Jade one of my WIP MCs.
Jade is working at a legal firm, talking with one of her work friends.

IRIS: “How about a homicide investigation?"
JADE: “Oh my god, yes! Thank god for murder.”
IRIS: “Maybe a little too excited there, Jade.”
JADE: “Iris, I’d kill someone myself if it meant I had something to do at work.”
IRIS: “Well just don’t start with me then.”

Rewriting my first book, and came up with this, I feel like this is a great piece of character exploration for my MC

"The Fault of the Flesh is that it is weak, and a weakness can be exploited. Whatever you do, do not show weakness, go out into this world, and show them what you are made of." Isake said. "These were the last words said to me by my trainer Zari. words that up until recently, I had followed, today, that changed."

and another for the sheer fact that it's kinda amusing to me

“I can understand that, am I right in thinking that you may have called Emeril an uneducated, pig-s*** born heir to nothing in Hdrethi?” Kilnir asked, Isake letting out a snort in response.

It's a bit devoid of context, but it's one of the most powerful paragraphs I've written. The speaker is Zandakar, former leader of the rebellion and current...head statesman of a galactic confederation of races who are no longer obligated to be nice to each other. He's distressing about that fact to his military commander, Jamarah. This is the final paragraph of what amounts to a very emotional recap of the first novel.

    --
“I can’t fix this, Jamarah.” He spun, and Jamarah stepped back. “I can’t fix this alone. I was wrong, don’t you see? I thought that everyone would listen when I spoke. I thought they would want to work together. They just want to ruin each other’s lives. They all want to be the most important, and all of them want the Thorans to be least important. No vote will ever favor the Thorans, if the others have to vote against themselves to do it. It’s exactly what he said it would be. You asked me what he means to me? He’s a reminder to be humble, that I can be wrong, disastrously so. That even a man who’s so gods-fired sure that he’s right can be as wrong as either of us ever was, put together.”

    “You’ll fix this.”

“How can you always have faith in me?”

    “One of us has to.”

Lauren, the main character, trying to influence/intimidate a sickly familiar (human working for Vampyres) into giving her vital information she needs in order to find out what's going on with her former Coven. Hopefully this one isn't as sh*t as the last one I posted.

"I could restore your health with the blood in my veins...or, I could end it all with a swipe of my claws. I could even just sit back and let nature take its course. Whether you like it or not, I am your Jesus Christ. All who come through me will receive eternal life, and those who do not shall surely die."

I'm impressed reading all your contributions, though I can't join in. Picking out a line is like picking out a bass riff or drum fill... you need the whole piece, the whole album for it to make sense and read as intended. I compose all of my dialogue in front of a mirror so it sounds real, so I suppose my favourite quote is any piece of dialogue one of my readers decides to speak out loud, inventing a voice for one of my characters they think fits. Though CVWilliam, your quote is lyrical, sassy and totally how I imagine a vampire to talk. Maybe swap out 'my claws' with 'a claw' for the added ambiguity, it will give the piece an added level of threat. Beyond that, sounds pretty great to me!

    I already saw threads about your favorite quotes but since everyone here is a writer or something. what about the best quote you've ever written in your matter? That would be more interesting to share. (Sorry if this thread have been opened before e.e) I think mine is;

"Humans tend to believe that the monsters are hiding under the bed, but they are wrong. The real monsters are those who are in the bed."
