https://www.thesaurus.com/ https://www.dictionary.com/ I have not seen this link anywhere, and thought it might be useful to someone. It also has a definitions tab. It would be nice to put a sticky together with some helpful links.
I always use that website when I'm in a pinch, especially since it's really easy to navigate. But nothing will ever resolve that issue you get when you know the jist of what you are trying to say but you can't even think of the word to search for to find what you actually need a synonym for! It's the worst!
I use that thesaurus all the time but I didn't know it had that interesting face page. Thanks for sharing.
May I refer you to my post in "software" (https://www.writingforums.org/threads/try-these-word-macros-a-bit-geeky.160321/) which is the code for creating a word macro for linking a highlighted word in your word doc straight to the thesaurus/dictionary or just a google search on that word I use these to such an extent that I now get disappointed when using another medium that doesn't have them (such as paper...)
So this on their front page right now... I do like to use dictionary/thesaurus.com. I have to find *exactly* the right word godDAMNIT
I rarely go to the thesaurus, unless I "know" the word I'm looking for but it keeps barely eluding capture. I find it sharpens my wits to let my mind track it down. If I'm still not feeling it, I move on and let my brain process it in a background process. That "Ah HAH" moment when it pops into my head is almost as good as sex. Barring that, I also know I can pick it up during editing and revision. Another thing that helps is that I am an incorrigible punster, so I'm continually looking at synonyms and multiple meanings for every situation.
My laptop sits on a large print thesaurus, so naturally I use the website. However I consult an actual physical collegiate dictionary for the really tough words. Gives me an excuse to remove my butt from the couch.
I can certainly understand that. I'm still young, but as the years since high school (no college) grow longer, more and more of my 'big words' elude me, and for longer. I turn to thesaurus.com to help when I can't find my own words, but on the occasion that even that doesn't work, finding it on my own is a beautiful feeling. All the dopamine of victory, without any of the physical exertion of actually leaving my computer to accomplish something. I'm much more worried about misusing words I *can* find, than not being able to find others. As mentioned, I'm just not as clever as I used to be. Sad day when my vocabulary peaks at 18, isn't it?
