I kind of regretted saying this right after I posted. I'm just frustrated. The year started out great and then it was over and everything was rejected. I've got a few that haven't been submitted and need a little TLC, but then I think I'll try Threepenny with them. And then I might ask again what's the point.
Well, not sure if anyone is reading this now but I just had a message informing me that Tin House magazine was closing. I'm assuming that all submissions in process are rejected due to this fact, submission manager had this message also. Anyway, thought I'd post this.

From the US. I ‘perceived’ Tin H as top 2nd tier. But maybe there’s some narrative where they published earnest dross & the subs were flakey (old sense)? I dunno :/
Hard to know isn't it, without inside knowledge. Top two? Serious...they did take an age to respond from what DR said, whether that was a symptom we'll never know I guess.
Hard to tell. As the British mag I know a little about - as the editors turned 35 to 45 they diversified to publishing...same way TH is focussing on books?
Well Strange have passed on my latest, I actually didn't think it would make it this far, it's been well over a month. That's me done submitting for a while, I'm getting down to writing.
Nothing great - but I pulled my finger out yesterday after my "depression" [in the inverted commas] and posted the dog sex on to a publisher seeking alliance . & the NYC reading thing sent me a 'receipt' - woo - but then I read that one - and it was one of the best things I've ever read, so I'm thinking they'll be the same & fly me to New York? Crappy London mag still have my old death memoir to re-publish so that'll be mmmm in a month or so. AND because we've become temporarily embarrassed jobswise [temporary and tragic] the government are paying my rent. It's the happiest day of the year to date. I'm thinking maybe just be always unemployed? The job centre wasn't too bleak and I said I was a 'writer.' I'm only accepting writer jobs at 80k minimum, the last word on the matter..
I'm not even going to ask... Yeah, you go dude, 80k sounds about right. They'll probably get you a job writing some old cronies memoirs, she got to all kinds of things when she was a young thing!
I suppose it's some sort of partnership percentage where I draw up my own portfolio of old fellas and write up their war/pot orgy stories for the grandchildren..
I regularly try a few outside the US. Granta is based in the UK. Room and Gain are Canadian publications. But most of them are in the US. So, I guess you could say I'm internationally rejected. I believe Granta is opening to submissions again later this month. They do charge a small fee to submit which I hate, but this is one I'll pay to try and send my best work to. Maybe you should try them or at least check them out. They are a good and solid publication. Getting in there would be a dream. I got a bunch of rejections in December when I thought it would be a quiet month. Didn't post about them because I needed a forum break. But I do like our little rejection thread. I'm going to try and pop back in as I get rejected. Last year I was rejected over 100 times. Last year I also sent out 149 submissions. Trying hard and writing all the time. Here's hoping 2019 is a great publishing year for all of us. I think selling at least two stories would be a great year. In my years of short story writing I've had one great year, but boy was it great. I also think that all the rejection is worth it when a story finally does sell. @Krispee -- Keep sending your stuff out. You are an awesome writer with some killer stories. PM or email me if you want any help finding places to submit. You should try The Threepenny Review. They just opened to submissions again and they are super quick to respond. Also, free to submit. The only thing is they don't take simultaneous submissions. But, really, you should get a response within a week. If it takes longer, it's probably a good sign. I know someone who published with them. I believe the pay is decent.
These days the spicier the better I suppose. I was going to re-write the couple of stories that have been read that I haven't submitted to anywhere, one especially to focus on the science fiction area specifically. One of the mags does actually mention that they don't get enough sci-fi so I wanted to just focus my writing a little on that. I will try your three penny mag with my Funnel story.
