    New to the forums.

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by TheFalseHankMoody, Dec 16, 2018.

    Hello,

I felt like the introduction, while possible, was the best place to start. My name is Sebastian.
Just like I would assume with most people in this forum, I love reading and writing. Music is a coping mechanism, I've used it as such a thing this past month (Been down but not out). I'm just going to keep it as a shorter introduction but feel free to ask questions and/or introduce yourself.

    Thank you to everyone.

    Welcome to the forum. :)
I like very much the Hank Moody character (and his 'madafacaaaa' always made me laugh a lot).
Hope you have fun here. Cheers

    Thank you, "madafacaaaa"
I knew someone was going to know who Hank Moody was/is.

Cheers to you as well, Artifacs.

Thank you for the welcome, Jannert.
He is just a fictional character from a television show. That doesn't mean you are old. And besides, I believe they say age is just a number. :)

Trust me, age is real. It's broken down knees, saggy jowls, skin tone gone to hell, grey hair, tooth enamel erosion, and accumulated life experiences that feel to me like wisdom, and probably sound to others like some old fart's witterings. But better than the alternative? Yep, for now.... :)

    Are you a mystery/crime writer?

I am! I love murder mysteries and mysteries. As of what I write, it varies from what I’m feeling but it’s mainly mystery.

    What about yourself?

I'm not a particular fan of mysteries and crime writing, but I now live in a country (Scotland) where crime writing is king at the moment. It's incredibly popular, not only as reading material but as a form for new writers to explore. Several really well known crime writers come from Scotland and often use Scotland for the settings of their books, including Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Christopher Brookmyre, Denise Mina, Peter May, Lesley Glaister and Alexander McCall-Smith. These stories range from the really gory (Val) to the fairly harmless and twee cosy mysteries (McCall-Smith) but they're all into it.

I've not lived in the USA since 1985, so I don't know what the 'temperature' is for crime/mystery writing. But I think it's always going to be popular. I know at least one member of the forum here who writes 'police procedurals,' and he lives in New York.

What kinds of mysteries do you write? Have you finished any, or are they still Works In Progress? (WIPs?)

That's really interesting! Scotland is definitely somewhere I would love to visit sometime in the future. Mystery and crime is pretty big still in the USA, the Likes of Patterson, Gillian Flynn, Ruth Ware, Clare Mackintosh, just to name some of my favorites. As for if I have written any, most are WIP's. Whenever I go to write one, I get another idea in my head. But I have made great progress with a book I am working on currently.
