It was in August to a pen pal I’ve had for a decade now. We took a break for a few years, but hopefully we’ll start writing more often again.

Does writing a message on a Christmas card count?
Because, if so, two days ago.

Otherwise, several years I think. Not sure if I've ever actually written a letter by hand myself. Don't really remember doing it.

    Probably about 20 years.

I can barely write at all now. It's maybe thirty seconds before my hand starts to hurt, and within a few minutes of continuous writing it will be significant pain. I had a three-hour written exam a few years ago and I genuinely considered giving up without finishing because ow ow ow. :bigoops:

A week ago, but it was HARD. It started out as just a note on a Christmas card, but expanded onto a separate sheet. I find that not only is my writing unpretty, but I also find my head rushing ahead of my hand, and I end up making all sorts of mistakes. I leave letters out of words, use the wrong letter, etc. I'm so used to typing now, and I'm pretty fast at it, that writing by hand is a total chore—unless it's a grocery list or a note to myself. I only hope the recipient of that painfully-created missive can actually read the damn thing.

Have you always had pain when attempting to write?

LOL I get what you mean. I am the same thing haha.
I think writing is an art somehow we must not loose it.

Oh no, when I was in school/college/university and I was writing every day, I could take notes throughout a three-hour lecture with no problems. But once I graduated I stopped writing pretty much overnight. Now I guess I don't have the muscles that I had?

I get it. I reckon a 5 minute practice everyday will clear it like anything I guess haha :)

The last letter I wrote was to my mother when I was in the military, stationed in Hawaii. In those long-ago days, telephone calls involved something called 'long distance', which was an extra charge based on distance. Calls from Hawaii to the mainland were expensive, so we wrote. Once I was transferred to North Carolina, we just called.

I don't write letters by hand, and for good reason. My handwriting is illegible unless I write very slowly and painstakingly. *I* can't even read my handwriting if I don't remember exactly what I was thinking at the time, so I might as well be writing with smoke on a windy day.

Thank Grodd for keyboards and voice recognition!
