Yep, killed a laptop keyboard that way before. Kind of salvaged it for a little while but it would tweak out and continuously hit "enter" over and over again which eventually got too annoying and I caved and bought a new one. Don't think wine is the issue here at work though, lol. FTW= For The Win but I'm not sure what Cherry MX is. An energy drink maybe?
I don't like that I have to modulate my voice to a higher pitch to be heard, and not considered mumbling. And it don't help that I knowing do this and I don't like it at a higher pitch. I am just soft spoken and have a low gravelly voice naturally, so get off my back.
Cherry MX switches are mechanical keyboard keys. The keyboard looks just like any other, but instead of the keys smooshing down onto some electronic pad thingy, they actually activate a mechanical switch. They're coded by color, with the different colors indicating different firmness of keypress and whether or not they are "clicky." IIRC, I opted for Cherry MX Blue on my current keyboard, which is medium-firm and makes a distinct "click" with each press of the key. It would be the wrong keyboard for an office due to the racket, but I find the sound inspiring, harking back to the days of typewriters.
Saw so many damn keyboards, I never bothered with model names unless I was ordering parts, which was rare indeed. I loved my mech-keyboard, got 4 spares cause I know the logic boards give out. Keys wear like iron. Love the feel! Had a keyboard 'boneyard' in the lab, and created many frankenstein-boards!
I actually found an old IMB model M keyboard in the basement and after spending a few days cleaning it up, peroxiding the yellow out of the plastic and making up a DIN to PS2 connector... I found out I definitely prefer my MX Cherry Blue keyboard.
Is there somewhere I could go to "test drive" the various models? Reading that has reminded me how much I despise the keyboard on my computer in L.A.. The keys are too small (which is saying a lot, because I have fairly small hands), the slant is the wrong height, it's not clacky, and I'm constantly backspacing because the small keys mean my left hand makes a ton of typos. Lastly, it's such a cheap piece of shit that the M, N, comma, and period wore off of their respective keys within a year.
Big box electronics store? I know Circuit City, may they rest in Hell (bad experience) is gone, but someplace like Best Buy might have samples on display that you could test-type a little to get the feel of. I went to Yodobashi Camera in downtown Osaka to choose mine, if that helps.
Thanks, Ash! Yeah, I definitely need a test drive. The experience with my current computer has taught me never to buy a keyboard unseen again. (TMW typing on a laptop is preferable...) I do like the looks of the spacing of the keys on the CherryMXBlue. The keys on mine are way too close together.
Key spacing isn't a switch thing. The Cherry (Cherry MX?) company only makes the switches, they sell them to keyboard manufacturers, so you won't be looking for something Cherry branded, but something made with Cherry MX switches. Whoops, it looks like Cherry does make some of their own, but also sell the switches. Mine is an Archiss. Do some reading up first, then hit the store.
There are also different keyboard layouts, profiles and key cap options to consider as well. I personally like a full size ANSI layout, with SA profile keys caps on either blue or brown switches with a definite leaning towards blue. Spoiler: Some keyboard layouts Spoiler: Keycap profiles
And then there's this. Check out the @ key, the quotation marks, and the apostrophes. Also, the symbols on the top row are shifted by one. When I type online, I use Japanese settings, but when I'm writing, I shift over to the English layout and let my fingers do all the walking.
You've been doing it wrong all along. Don't try to have sex with your keyboard and don't ply it with wine to improve your chances. It's not one of those fancy computerised sex dolls, you know?
My number in a line is 97 387 114 and you have 98 113 275 so it should be me shouting to you that you should not push! Now just take your real place in the line and do not try to jump the queue any more!
I knew it was ethylene. What I was saying is that I wasn’t sure if the chemicals in the paper bag aided the ethylene in the process. Edited spelling because dyslexia hates ethylene.
Switching like that would drive me a little mad. I have a hard enough time remembering where the keys are as it is. Start messing up where my punctuation's at and I'd probably be cleaning up keyboard bits by the end of the evening.
I was just having lunch on a restaurant a couple hours ago, trying to relax and calm down, on the table behind me was this family with a daughter, 2 years old at most. They put a cellphone on a table stand mode so she could watch some kids cartoon, and it was really loud, I think the volume was on max. I could tell a lot of people around me were bothered. Damn parents these days don't know how to set any boundaries on their children. When I was a kid, my mother used to say lunch and dinner time are sacred. I never misbehaved while eating, and they never had to give me any distraction so I didn't.
I had a lady lose her rag at me today because her son keeps getting detentions. She was one of those ones who insists that he's telling the truth and the teacher must be lying. I didn't buy it, especially since teachers have a hell of a lot to lose for lying like this.
