We like Kingdom. Nice to have a zombie romp in a totally different culture and time. Plus we won't don't have to see the obligatory guns and ammo guff. The zombies are great too.

Also currently enjoying Deadly Class. Typical comic shenanigans.

Just started watching Good Girls. It's one we stick on when I dump myself on the sofa after I get in from work. I stuff down my tea and listen to him chatting about his work day at the same time. It's the sort of light telly you can successfully multitask to.

I still need to watch Mindhunter. I feel really bad about not getting around to it. It`s right up my alley to, I like a good cop show especially going into the criminal psyche. A lot of it is shot right in Pittsburgh (which i`m just outside of) they`ve done photography for the show here, I know people who have been extras on the show, and even know one of there scenic artists on a quite personal level. Still, haven`t done it, really need to. Know it`s a quality show though.

Haven`t gotten a chance to watch much TV lately but still meandering through Punisher season 2...it`s ok. Not bad by any means it`s good just nothing really stands out and not sure where they're trying to go or message. It`s hard to take Jigsaw`s "Frank made me hideous" thing from the comics seriously here when like,....he`s not. He`s still super handsome if anything there kinda badass. I mean i`m sure the pain and mental pain would be agonizing ether way but everybody talks like his face is mangled and ....it`s not. Going for the dual storyline path doesn`t not work but feel like it would`ve been better to focus on one or the other so you could dive deeper. If it weren`t for the fact that New York is such a well traveled city, that`s connected to a lot of things and is a hub the everything and everyone leads back to NYC wouldn`t work. It still comes off kinda hackish but New York would be that type of city. Do all these shows HAVE to be in New York? Not a complaint just Frank was in Ohio and they dragged him back.

Can't get myself to watch season 2 of Sense8 and the movie. Just don't want it to end, even though I know it's already over, but when I watch it, it will really be over.

Is it over if I refuse to watch the end?

When I find time to actually watch tv my plan goes like this. Finish Punisher-what ive missed of blindspot- wrap up shameless-start mindhunter. With more stargate sprinkled in there.

Punisher, hmm, I like the lead. He's got a strong screen presence, which is needed in that kind of role. I like the girl sidekick, she's got good fronty energy which balances his minimalism. BUT the two plot lines are not working together. I'd like to have stayed with her story. Not enjoying having the boring cop lady in there still. She's just got nothing to give. I wouldn't mind a face off between Punisher and Fisk (Daredevil's bad guy). He's a much more convincing bad guy. He's played incredibly well and he's a man who believes in his work.

Finished the first episode of Doom Patrol, and wow... It's technically a spin-off from Titans, and they went with the "F** Batman" stuff, and if you get mauled by a tiger, there WILL be blood. So Doom Patrol could easily go either way.

And wow... did it ever! F-bombs are dropped somewhat frequently, there's an actual sex scene early on (with nudity), and plenty of potential for blood and violence. This is certainly not for kids. I do enjoy the CW shows like The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, but they are all very safe shows. No blood, no swearing, and certainly no nudity. So it's very refreshing to have blood and swearing in both Titans and Doom Patrol. Plus, not only are they in a shared universe (Beast Boy actually started as part of the Doom Patrol), but there are plenty of potential for changing up the team. They even said directly that some members come and go. I think one reason why I love Legends of Tomorrow so much is that they change the roster between every season, so boring characters get booted, and new, interesting ones join. It keeps things fresh. If they can do the same with Doom Patrol, it has potential for being the best show in ages.

Ooooooor they could have gone all out on the first episode, and it starts to suck in the next one. :D Here's hoping they can keep it going strong, though.

Cor, Doom Patrol look good! Putting that on our 'to watch' list. I'll look up Titans too, not sure if we've ever seen that.. I get lost with all the superhero telly.

I`ve been in an off mood these past two days. Laid down the other night, despite having a large to watch list with my mood I started looking for something new. Found a Netflix show in my normal guilty pleasure genre, young adult urban fantasy. Is it a young adult? Idk it`s close enough. College kids, witches, and werewolves oh my. Felt like it was trying to be a cross between Bitten, The Vampire Diaries, and The Magicians. I never actually finished Bitten but The Vampire Diaries worked in an oversaturated market with a kinda unoriginal concept because the characters popped very well and the dynamics and chemistry pulled you in. The plot circling and circling round would later get too tedious though. The Magicians works because they lean in hard to absurdity, lewdness, and etc. Makes for a kinda odd tone when they try to hit more serious plot beats at times but it sets them apart. The Order.....doesn`t do any of that.

I ended up getting intrigued at the end, and it`s ten episodes only so an easy binge. However the start was rough, the first episode handled set up and exposition about as clunky as they could. Episode two was better still not great, but good. Episode three was irritating as all hell. The writing...just the main character Jacks behavior makes no sense other than they couldn`t have him jump to the obvious solution and make the ten episode order and it very sloppily covered a "moral lesson" for Jack so proper character delvpoment wouldn`t bog them down. It`s not horrible than on though, a few odd pacing and writing moments but it`s good for what it is and can be enjoyable. The bad guy was doing quite well at being intriguing and seeming complex but we never really did find out what his end desire was outside of power. The resolution of that bit actually as cool as it was was a little unsatisfying. The twisty cliffhanger at the end was a nice touch though.

Still, need to finish but I have been watching Titus again as well. Still, love the show, maybe relate to parts of it a little too much. The pilot has a bit about what happens when normal people are put in dysfunctional situations? They fall apart. The show itself can then be seen as the answer to what happens when dysfunctional people are put in normal situations

Update: The Order, and it`s magic college theme inspired me to start watching The Magicains again good so far still.

Love, Death, and Robots on Netflix is pretty cool. Basically animated (CG or otherwise) flash fiction to short story level, the longer ones come in around 15 minutes. If you were a fan of Heavy Metal magazine and the subsequent movie, you might like it. The stories are written by (the ones I looked up) people like Alistair Reynolds and Peter F. Hamilton, so they're pretty solidly based as well. As a matter of fact, I recognized the initial episode as something I'd read.

Although there's one episode featuring Marines where the screenwriter either didn't do his research or the animators took liberties without understanding who the story was about.

We're watching The Order, right up my street - straight out of Sunnydale. The acting is rather wooden, but the dialogue can be funny. Liking it atm.

Also, American Gods is back on. Woo hoo! Wow it never gets tired. Goes so slow, but I'm mesmerised all the way. And crunkly old Ian McShane is fab as always.

I'm caught up with Timewasters, currently airing their second series on ITV2.
A sitcom about South London musicians time travelling.
I played catch up online yesterday with ITV's streaming service ITV Hub.

Still deciding on that one, haven't started it yet. Just finished OITNB tonight, and Mrs. A and I are getting into House of Cards, not sure if I need another series or if I should like, write or something.

It's a fast paced adventure and easy to watch. It's got some interesting characters. I haven't watched House of Cards, but from what I've got it looks pretty heavy and long. I've heard awesome critique about it though.

You mean to tell me that
    the USMC doesn't have werewolves?
    Iain, buddy, it's called fiction.

All jesting aside, I've watched most of it by now. This stuff is directly up my alley. They're not all masterpieces, but there are some gorgeous visuals and cool stories in there. The short format is really doing it for me as well; there's something to be said for condensed storytelling.

Nah, the issue I had was that the dialogue was written for the Army, but the people were portrayed visually as Marines.

In the chow tent scene, the one werewolf addresses the guy who doesn't want them sitting there as "sergeant," but the rank on the man's collar is either that of a Gunnery Sergeant (E-7) or some sort of fucked-up E-8, I couldn't really see how many stripes were on the bottom but at times it looked like there might have been three. In the US Army, soldiers of ranks E-5 through E-7 (sergeant, staff sergeant, sergeant first class) can all be addressed under the catchall term "sergeant," but Marines insist on the distinctions. E-5 (three stripes up) is "sergeant," E-6 (three up, one down) is "staff sergeant," and E-7 (three up, two down, bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded) is "gunnery sergeant," commonly addressed as "gunny."

Later on, the older officer says something to the surviving werewolf along the lines of "You're no soldier, you're an animal." No Marine would ever address another Marine by the derogatory term "soldier," no matter how little he thought of him. Scratch that, the line should have read "You're not even an animal, you're a... soldier." Likewise, the term "dog-soldiers" is a Native American term, but I'm more inclined to let that pass based on a) the prejudice against the werewolves, and b) the symbolism of the dog tags and leash.

Still an enjoyable episode, and one that just taught me something as a writer. There are dozens of threads here about "I'm of (ethnic/religious/gender/etc) Group X, is it okay for me to write from the viewpoint of Group Y, Z, or L?"

Only if you do a lot of research, and get it proofread by someone of that other group. One missed term can break the whole thing.

I see... I find it interesting that these kinds of distinctions exist, and it's funny to see "soldier" being used as a kind of insult. I guess you're supposed to damned well call them Marines if you know what's good for you?
