Probably. I've only read War and Peace and part of Crime and Punishment. As far as I can remember, Tolstoy was less introspective than Dostoevsky. I didn't read the middle of Crime and Punishment. I just couldn't handle an entire book of introspection and guilt at that point. But I remember skipping to the end and reading the part with the New Testament. Almost made me want to go back and read the book Does anyone know what Tolstoy's beliefs were? I think they were somewhat unorthodox (no pun intended, lol). The only extent to which religion really shows up in War and Peace is with Pierre joining the Free Masons and quitting after simply doing good failed to satisfy.

Dead barrel just means time to order up another keg! Glorious, victorious, One keg of beer for the four of us, And glory be to God that there are no more of us, 'Cause one of us could drink it all alone, damn near Pass the beer to the rear Of the squaaadbay!
They're professionals at this in Russia, so no matter how many Jell-O shots or Jager shooters you might have downed at college mixers, no matter how good a drinker you might think you are, don't forget that the Russians - any Russian - can drink you under the table. - Anthony Bourdain
I used to smoke marijuana. But I’ll tell you something: I would only smoke it in the late evening. Oh, occasionally the early evening, but usually the late evening —or the mid-evening. Just the early evening, mid-evening and late evening. Occasionally, early afternoon, early mid-afternoon, or perhaps the late-mid-afternoon. Oh, sometimes the early-mid-late-early morning…But never at dusk. - Steve Martin
"Most people live on the path we set out for them, to afraid to explore any other. But once in a while, people like you come along and knock down all the obstacles we put in your way. People who realize free will is a gift you'll never know how to use until you fight for it. I think that's the chairman's real plan, that maybe , one day, we won't write the plan, you will." - Harry - The Adjustment Bureau. It's simply wrong to always order kids to stop that fighting. There are times when one child is simply defending his rights and damned well should be fighting." - Erma Bombeck "A life of reaction is a life of slavery, intellectually and spiritually. One must fight for a life of action, not reaction." - Rita Mae Brown "Meditation is an invitation to notice when we reach our limit and to not get carried away by hope and fear. Through meditation we're able to see clearly what's going on with our thoughts and emotions, and we can also let them go. What's encouraging about meditation is that even if we shut down, we can no longer shut down in ignorance. We see very clearly that we're shutting off. That in itself begins to illuminate the darkness of ignorance. We're able to see how we run and hide and keep ourselves busy so that we never have to let our hearts be penetrated. And we're also able to see how we could be open and relax. Basically, disappointment, embarrassment, and all these places where we just cannot feel good, are a sort of death. We've just lost our ground completely; we are unable to hold it together and feel that we're on top of things. Rather than realizing that it takes death for there to be birth, we just fight against the fear of death. Reaching our limit is not some kind of punishment. It's actually a sign of health that, when we meet the place where we are about to die, we feel fear and trembling. A further sign of health is that we don't become undone by fear and trembling, but we take it as a message that it's time to stop struggling and look directly at what's threatening us." - Pema Chodron - When things fall apart. "Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more." - Erica Jong "Be kind to one another, for most of us are fighting a hard battle." - Ian MacLaren "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." - Socrates
When a huge woman explodes into millions of crabs, that's probably a sign the infection has gone too far.

"By clinging to our pain we depower ourselves. We begin to believe we have no other choice but to feel pain. We argue for our limitations thereby adopting them and limiting ourselves." - Lynn Atkinson "The solutions to all your problems exist right now. The answers are already there. Just listen for them in the quietness of your being and they will come to you - perhaps not immediately, but very soon. And trust the process; it works much better and faster when you trust it. Keep an open mind. Don't argue or analyze the messages you get from your intuition. Sometimes the message may not make sense right away. Just go on with your daily work and you'll start finding that you get hunches about what is troubling you most. Follow your hunches. They are the Universe's messengers trying to lead you to your greatest good." - John Harricharan "Depend upon it that if a man talks of his misfortunes there is something in them that is not disagreeable to him; for where there is nothing but pure misery there is never any recourse to the mention of it." - Samuel Johnson "There is nothing so disagreeable, that a patient mind cannot find some solace for it." - Seneca "Few maxims are true in every respect." - Marquis de Vauvenargues
The most wretched people in the world are those who tell you they like every kind of music 'except country.' People who say that are boorish and pretentious at the same time. - Chuck Klosterman
"You smell like a fuckin' turtle tank, go take a fuckin' shower!" Pennsatucky, Orange is the New Black
I believe it was Shakespeare, or possibly Howard Cosell, who first observed that marriage is very much like a birthday candle, in that 'the flames of passion burn brightest when the wick of intimacy is first ignited by the disposable butane lighter of physical attraction, but sooner or later the heat of familiarity causes the wax of boredom to drip all over the vanilla frosting of novelty and the shredded coconut of romance.' I could not have phrased it better myself. - Dave Barry
Mr. Klosterman didn't say that was the ONLY attribute of truly wretched people, just that it was a common attribute of truly wretched people.
