I have fallen into the rabbit hole of music of late. I started DJing at an alternative club online, and I'm hearing and playing things I've never even heard of before. I'm expanding my musical palette in a very tangible way. I'll report back with some of my new faves at some point. I'm still acquiring old songs as new faves daily.
Here's what I've been listening to lately. The Claypool Lennon Delirium I was unaware this was going on. You wouldn't think that Primus/Beatles would work, but it actually does. (Yes. I realize it's not THAT Lennon, but he sounds amazingly similar to his father.) Unleash the Archers "I'm a Bundy Junkie!" LOL I usually don't like power metal, but this song really smokes. The choruses are cool and the solos are perfect. The Hu Mongol Folk Metal. I'm surprised this exists. I can't tell you how much this looks like Sturgis, SD. (If you arrive a few days early you will have your run of the merch stands.) I tried to skip the slow intro though it is cool too . . . H Zettrio Jazz fusion. I find this combination pretty unique. Their noses are their disguises. You're not supposed to recognize them. Cattle Decapitation I've been to a couple of shows with these guys. The pits are exceedingly violent, probably the most intense I've seen. This clip perfectly captures the show. Pour a beer over your head and fling yourself across the room. Rescue your cat from the floor before he's trampled because in the pit we're all brothers.
My favorite Claypool side project (this is what, his twelfth?) since Oysterhead. Looking forward to the new release Friday, which I didn't know was happening until just now, so thanks! 1/4 of Primus + 1/4 of Phish + 1/3 The Police = Oysterhead. Man, this took me back. I hadn't heard it in years.
This amuses me more than it should. I guess you have to recognize the black metal tropes. Though it sounds a little like Amon Amarth for some reason. Not exactly black metal. Whatever, doesn't matter. I was reading the comments and got a funny idea for a new story. Maybe it's too niche . . . unsure.
Not your enemy, I'm a friend that you need I'm not your enemy, I'm a friend that you need It was never my intention to drive you away But you choose your direction, where, you would not say Now, I hate that things are ending, and you're hiding from me You think that i sold you out That's in your mind, That's in your mind And it may be a long time, a long time indeed and I may not be a friend you want, But I'm a friend that you need
Really digging the new Miyavi album, particularly this tune with Mikki Ekko. It is hitting all the good pop buttons.
