    I Am Steve

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Steve Coombes, Jan 17, 2019.

    Hi.
Having spent most of my life living close to the edge I have met a few interesting characters that encourage me to think I may have a novel in me. I have all the basic work done but in a month or so I plan to test it out on any unwitting reader I can so watch out!
Even, as is most likely, it never gets published I have enjoyed the process and will probably start another one just for the hell of it. I have heard writing can stave of senility so I am doing lots of it.
    Good Luck to you all
    Steve

Welcome, Steve! Is there a genre you can identity for your novel, or is it sort of general literature?

he means the bass player from u2 who lives in an apartment overlooking water

he's showing off which locale he is from thinking he is more likely to get positive feedback if people think he has cash

Hard to say. High concept fiction I guess. A romance with a conspiracy in the middle.
The romance is similar to the film Cabaret but with a happy ending and the middle is like Midnight Express with a John le Carre type conspiracy. Both films probably too oldt for most here but agents will know of them for sure.

How old do you assume people here are? I'm thinking we've got all ages. I love Cabaret, and a long time ago I read a number of Christopher Isherwood's books, but I can't remember much about them. I like the sound of your story though.

That's good. It is taking me longer to edit than I thought. Never knew about editing before so learning everyday. Writing it has been a labour of love for a long time and is built around my experience of a Moroccan prison in the 70's and the people I knew so hopefully sounds authentic butis mostly fictional.
Once finished I will post some of it here and everyone can have a say. It will at least make a change from fantasy if nothing else.

Midnight Express comes to mind. But that was a Turkish prison.

Yeah that's why I say above the novel is like midnight express with a romance wrapped around it.
