Carol burnett "Wrong Number" was hilarious. Everything about that woman is hilarious, she's the only reason I could stomach watching "Annie" I'm British so all mine are Brits or Scottish. Lee Evans John Cleese morecambe and wise "Grieg Concerto" is hilarious Laurel and Hardy (especially Way out West) Tony Hancock "Blood Donor" Peter Sellers I'm probably forgetting tons more but they sprung into my tiny brain. oh and Dad's Army with the "don't tell 'em pike!"
I forgot to mention Peter Kay. He doesn't have much stand up stuff, unfortunately, and I haven't seen Car Share.
The people who can make me smile and laugh the most are: Dylan Moran David Mitchell Richard Pryor Robin Williams Mitch Hedberg Joel Hodgson Mike Nelson -SIN
I always find myself going back to listen to Dennis Miller's stand-up. Doesn't matter if it's early or post-party switch Dennis Miller, he's just great. Other than him, Bill Burr.
Ron White, George Carlin, Bill Burr, Stephen Wright, Louie CK, and Jake Johansen to name a few; also Benny Hill and much of the other British stuff was good as well.
Sebastian Maniscalco is probably my favorite comedian these days (though I still like watching old clips of Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield). Here is a sample: Lad’s a little, uh, “politically incorrect.” Don’t say I didn’t warn you. But, I look for belly laughs and to me, funny is funny.
Skip to 2:56, if you don’t want to watch the preliminary stuff. They just don’t make ‘em like Buddy Hackett anymore:
I could say when I listened to Steve Martin, and to Robin Williams, they were really very funny. There were great funny comedians, but I don't really want to go further back so much which would date me more. I found certain movies were really hilarious, Airplane was possibly the most.
Tough to beat George Carlin. I saw him live in 1998 and my stomach still hurts from laughing. He came out to the middle of the stage, looked around for a bit, didn't say anything at first, and then yelled out, "Have you ever been too drunk to jerk off?" Classic.
Eddie Izzard Jeff Arcuri I used to watch the DVD of Izzard's standup too many times for it to actually be funny but I still laughed all the time. Jeff Arcuri is a more recent discovery and he posts videos on Instagram of his crowd work. He's like a sarcastic golden retriever.
Back in the early 90's I went out with the family, it was a birthday or something don't really remember, to a local comedy club in the LA area. Part way through the show, the MC was on stage between acts, and announced that there was a special guest in the audience. The spotlight moved to the back of the room, and Robin Williams came walking in. The man had the audience rolling in the isle. We were laughing so hard it was difficult to breathe. He gave you just enough time between jokes to get some breathe back, before he had you struggling for breath because you were laughing so hard. He did five minutes of impromptu comedy, and then just walked back to his table in the back of the room to watch the rest of the show.
Louis was my favourite for many years, but over the past 3 or 4, Bill Burr has taken over the #1 spot for me. The social commentary in his routines really speaks to me. Here's a 30 second clip from his latest Netflix special: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cbGJZbimggU?feature=share
Seychelles or the Isle of Wight? ===================== George Carlin and Bill Hicks always did it for me. As for comedy with music -- Bill Bailey and Tim Minchin are hard to beat these days. But if you're talking from the old days, Tom Lehrer or Flanders and Swann are very good too.
