    Somewhat nerdy simple pleasures

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Stormsong07, Mar 19, 2019.

I love the smell of books. I'll flip the pages and just smell them. Or take a deep breath when I walk into a bookstore.

I also love the feeling of taking my favorite pen (Pilot G-2, 05 point) to a crisp sheet of paper or notebook and just writing. We keep a logbook at work and I just enjoy the simple task of writing on a fresh sheet of paper.

What (somewhat nerdy) simple pleasures do you enjoy?

Buying action figures of my favorite science fiction series and placing them in ornate displays, building my collection.

...I think I'm a little beyond the "somewhat" here...

Legos! Nerf! From about 5, I got my son lego sets cause daddy thought they were cool, too. We also had daddy n son Nerf guns, two of every model! He's a Junior in high school, now, so toys are no longer cool. But Daddy now has an arsenal of Nerf. And more than 10,000 legos! Nerd(f)vana! :D

Men who can dig. I like watching a real man dig a hole. [see youtube] and same ways I hold hatred in my eyes when some phony with the electronica wrists says 'shovel' in public arenas. He means spade, the prick.

I suffered a lot in the learning of holes and digging holes. Seems natural why I hate men who cannot dig to the rules, right hand on the back end, high and straight as a spear. You should learn it now if you don't know already. Go outside and buy a spade before your wife does.

The excitement of the pipe emerging:

"There it is, chief. One million volts of death laid in the soil, probably '82, '85!"

Banksman, class zero. This is my spade, there are many spades like my spade etcetera

I'll have to get a wife first. You know the saying: "spade before wife and you'll have nothing but strife, but wife before spade and you'll have it made."

I have a little box full of them, nerdy ones, tourist ones, I even got one for an award I got in Sixth Form (High Sheriff Youth Award).

    Yeah, that lingers, thank you.
    ..
I was reading on the toilet 'Know a man by his laugh...' an Azerbaijan proverb. Made me think about the advice 'going to Russia.' Do not laugh out loud in public...

'Hee hee, hee hee hee hee, hee hon hon hon honey honk honk..'

'Shut up...those guys in the black leather coats, they...'

Copying something in a weird font. Cutting it. Then pasting it as plain text.
    Oddly satisfying.

Cloud formations - whenever I'm out, I'm looking at the sky. Usually to the detriment of other pedestrians.

Yes to book sniffing too. It's like inhaling some kind of instant chill pill.

Only amateurs use their hand muscles in shovelling.

Real men stump the spade with left foot and use their rigtht side hip to push the right hand that is in the back end. And when you use your hip, it's your legs that are doing the work.

And for ground it's Fiskars ErgoComfort (which you can't buy in USA because they don't know how to use it)!

    https://www.fiskars.fi/tuotteet/puutarhanhoito/lapiot/ergocomfort-pistolapio-pitkavartinen-1001569

    EDIT:

I should have mentioned using the inner tight of right leg to force shovel forward. This is very good if you are shoveling hard or frosen ground.

Tight presses our right hand and you move your hip forward. This way your legs do the hard work and your arms can rest.

You must be a bit sideways to the shovel.

So, Dapp, was I wrong in that salacious "gender reveal" party that got deleted a few weeks back? (Of course in these times I still could be right).

I once read that of all the bodily functions besides an orgasm a sneeze was rated as the most pleasurable sensation.

There is a Finnish saying which I will not translate:

"Kyllä kunnon kuseminen voittaa huonon panon!"

Sneezing in not even in top 10 here.
