Hey guys, So I think it's safe to assume we're all animal lovers here. We either have a pet, would like to have a pet or have a preferred animal that we love. Some of us even use animals in our stories , I know at least two of my dogs who have appeared in stories, I'm hoping to do a third dog I had. So, this Poll is to see what animal you prefer to have as a pet, or would like, or have leaning towards trade
I think it goes without saying, I am a dog person. Ever since the day I was born to the day I die oh, I've had a dog at my side. They're versatile, faithful, always ready to please or at least argue with you for a while about the unfair rationing of treats. And, some of them are even good at protecting.
Cats. Dogs are a reasonably close second. Why do I prefer cats? 1: No cat has ever given me shit for walking down the street, minding my own business. 2: Dogs are too energetic and high-maintenance. 3: Cats generally don't panic and trash the apartment if you leave them for five minutes. I don't know if dogs really tend to do that either or it's just an unfair stereotype, but they seem to have this separation anxiety that I find tiresome. 4: I think cats are more amusing. 5: Dogs don't purr. 6: Cats are so beautiful. 7: Wet dog. Ew. But yeah, I love dogs too.
Yeah, Cats have some good strengths over dogs. More independent, eat less, True, most just look at you like "What the Fuck" and then run away. LOL. Funny story, my mom was once walking out to the Mailbox, with one of the family cats named Bitchy, following. Some dude was walking his German Shepard. Got a little to close, I guess and Bitchy attacked the poor doggo. . She was a Himalayan. True, but maintenance depends on breed, but you're not wrong. Dogs are much more energetic and hyper. They do suffer from something called the zoomies. Which means they go crazy as fuck and destroy everything in their path. . Cat's have thier moment of psychotic-ness, I've seen some panic but they usually run and hide. I've seen a video where a cat went searching for their human after said human left, despite having access to resources, food, entertainment, etc. Have you ever seen a dog try to be a punk, do their little paws down trick then quickly turn around to run, only to go head first into a bookcase or fall off a bed as they try to itch themselves? True, but they do Howl. My dog likes to talk with me, aka push me around. LOL. Uh... Uhm... Huskies... Huskies with white fur and Icy Blue eyes. Hey, wont' get any argument from me here. . It's not so bad, I got a video of my pupper covered in mud.
I could have written that! I'm a cat lover, myself, for all those reasons. Mind you, I also love dogs, but I wouldn't want one 24/7. Well, there have been several dogs in my life that I would have loved to call mine, but there have also been many that I'm glad were not mine! I am not fond of small yappy dogs, and while I love big dogs, they require so much exercise and space. I also don't enjoy that pack instinct dogs seem to have—that they will never leave you alone, always begging for something, have to be with you every second, etc. I need my space. Cats give me space. Cats? They are pals who share the house. They are affectionate, but not terribly needy with it. I'm fond of all cats and have had three in my life. Two when I was growing up and one during my adult years. None since I moved to Scotland though. My husband isn't fond of pets. I would never have a bird. I love birds, but they need to be free, in my opinion. I was given a canary when I was a little girl, and I felt SO sorry for it. Nothing to do but just sit in a cage all day. I ended up giving it to an elderly couple who liked it, but I don't think its life changed all that much. I have always fantasized about getting an aquarium, as I do love watching fish. But I never have. I had a pet snake once, as a child (a garter snake we found outdoors) but we let him go after a few months. It wasn't fair to the snake. I think my ideal pet for my getting older years might be a hamster. It's the only pet I've been seriously considering. But I would want to make a huge habitat for it, which would mean getting rid of a lot of my furniture. I don't think my husband would be too keen! Pets. I guess I'll just enjoy other people's pets for now.
That's how I feel about most non-traditional pets. There's no real symbiotic relationship. I mean, you are giving them food, but without any attachment or loyalty on the part of the pet, they're really just prisoners kept for our own amusement.
Yes, that's well said. It's hard to tell if they are 'happy' or not. A tank full of fish might be happy enough, and they are certainly predator-free. But who knows? An animal that reacts to you, as their companion, is a much better choice, I reckon. I know I'll never forget that miserable wee bird. Nothing I could do to make it happy. I couldn't even let it go. It would have died right away, either by getting eaten, or from cold, etc. It taught me a lesson, for sure. I know some people keep parrots and large birds, and these birds do seem to enjoy themselves, and can be allowed to fly around and interact with people. Fair enough. Just not for me, though. But wee birds in cages? No.
Aptly named, I see I've seen that video, or at least one matching the description. Sure, cats can be incredibly clingy (Lord knows mine is) but as long as there's no destruction of property... When cats break shit it's usually an accident, or a spiteful act of sheer vandalism, which at least I can respect Haven't seen that particular thing, exactly, but dogs can be funny little buggers. Oh, dogs are beautiful as well, if not quite on the same level. I think huskies are probably the most handsome breed. The more a dog resembles a wolf, the more I like it.
Yeah. Those constantly hissing snakes are a menace as well. And don't get me started on hamster wheels all night long. Ruma tum ruma tum ruma tum ruma tum....
Well, I wouldn't say no. It's just that they are a lot bigger and require the removal of even MORE furniture.
Yeah well, the best part of a barking dog is that you know the owner isn't home to have to listen to it also.
I'm apparently missing the pet owner gene. I lilke to pet other peoples' dogs, but wouldn't want the responsibility of having one.
That's understandable, including purchasing food, toys, vet, , and other things. So it is a bit of a responsibility to have a pet
I have two Huskies, so they howl to come in. I always feel so sorry for my neighbors, and always try to bring them in. Thankfully, they don't do it for too long and kind of settle down usually. Not sure what to do when I'm not home, LOL.
No sarcasm here. I LOVE HUSKIES. I LOVE HOWLING. It's soothing and sweet. It's the barking, particularly the high pitched ones of small dogs, that is absolutely terrible.
Spoiler: Take a guess This poor boy is at vacation at my parents at the moment. He's got a bigger space to be outside and he thinks my parents cat is interesting enough. He... is not as big of a fan of my parents and apparently keeps hissing at them if they try to pet him. He follows them around and try to eat their food - but they're not allowed to get too close. I think he's doing alright, though, but it's hard not to feel a bit guilty for leaving him behind for a week. I'm one of few people who don't like dogs at all. Like, yes, they can be cute, but I just don't... care for them. No bigger reasons and I'm not scared of them unless they're openly aggressive towards me, but I've never really got the dog-hype.
Reptiles>Dogs>Kittens>anything else>Conscription into WW3>Full grown Cats. I don't like cats. Not that I hate them, just would never own one as a pet, but I adore playful little kittens. Reptiles, depending on which one you get, can either be the worst pets ever, or the most chill ones. Like my current bud, a bearded dragon named Goatee.
Reptiles.I love snakes, lizards, etc... Even fantasy ones (dragons, wyverns, etc...). Sadly you can't find dragons and wyverns at your local pet store. Cats don't like me and I don't like them. We agree to stay away from each other. If we get close, I usually end up with a few scratches and a bite or two and a cat with a boot up its ****. Dogs are fine, I can usually make them do what I want and even rowdy ones don't pose me a problem. They just seem to obey my commands with ease and very little convincing. Maybe they can sense it or something else. Who knows. Either way. I'd never get one as pet -- don't like them. As for birds. I never thought of them as pets. Though I neither dislike or like them for any particular reason. Fish are boring. So that's a no on them too. Plus keeping a fish in a 50cm by 15cm tank is almost downright cruel (imo anyways). edit: I will also add that most dogs are fine. It's the owners that are usually the problem. Dogs are pack animals and will seek an alpha. If they think you are weaker then them they may well become (or try to become) alpha. That is a problem because then they neither respect you or do what you wish and may become violent. Similarly, if your don't respect your own dog and treat it badly (or ignore it entirely as a pet, animals or otherwise) then it is the owner's fault the dog is a terrible daemon spawn from hell. Also those "fashion" dogs like pugs should not be bred so selectively. Those dogs are bred to have such a specific look that they may well be in pain constantly, have large biological defects and other health issues.
I've always had and loved cats but since having children I find their upkeep tedious and disgusting. Dogs are easier, but annoying in their own way. Too needy. Although some cats can be that way too. Reptiles I have yet to connect to. I have one and it's cool but that's about it. Fish can be fun to watch but I don't like cleaning tanks. I've been considering fancy goldfish but I'm concerned about maintaining a clean tank. Birds: well I have chickens and I do like them a lot. They poop a lot but I use it as manure. They are independent, make food, make my kids happy, are easy to care for (other than everything trying to kill then), help relieve me from buying from big egg farms that I think are cruel, and are relaxing to watch. I used to think of my chickens moving around the yard, eating and clucking, when I needed to relax at the doctor's.
Keeping a bird wh0 was designed to fly in a small cage is something that I did once as a child but would never do now. Resembles animal cruelty too much. It should not be encouraged nor allowed. The same applies to placing dolphins and orcas, animals designed to swim the vast oceans, in small tanks. IMHO.
