Hi everyone I just wanted to say hello to you all. I'm currently working on a number of projects and am hoping to have some work ready for publication in the near future. I will be looking to self-publish, and will be looking for alpha readers and feedback in the near future. Regards S
Welcome aboard Sark, I'm sure you'll find a lot of good information here to help you in your efforts. If you haven't yet, make sure you check out the Forum Rules and New Member Start Guide to let you know how things work around here. It's pretty laid back, and there are a lot of friendly people, so find a spot and don't be afraid to jump in. It'll be a couple weeks before you can post to the workshop, but that's a good chance to get involved in a few conversations and get to know and be known. If you have any questions or issues, don't be afraid to ask.
Thanks for the warm welcome and I certainly will go over the Guides and Rules in more detail over the next few days.
I have two separate novels that I am working on as well as a number of short stories on the back burner for when I need a change of pace - though the short stories are more for experimenting with different styles and genres. But the two novels are my main focus at the moment - one has a complete draft of a manuscript - which I am now going through polishing and editing - adding details and touchups where needed. The other I am still developing the lore of that universe and so far have only completed a Prologue and a first chapter for. Still, lots to do on both. But the first manuscript I wrote for 'Project Z' will probably account for the first two or many three books by the time it's done. It's currently hovering well of 100000 words total and by the time I finish polishing I expect around 120000 or more - so breaking it up seems wise.
100,000 words?! That’s so many! How long have you been working on that for? Also, I agree, you should definitely break that up into two or three books.
This specific project since late Feb - it basically is building on several concepts and ideas explored in similar previous projects that I have since abandoned in favour of this one. There is a lot of cleaning up to do on this one - but the story is surprisingly coherent. I had literally no filter when I was writing it, I just somehow got into the head of my main character John and just went along for the ride. It's almost hilarious reading back over the swearing, violence and explicit scenes it really was like an out of body experience in a way.
