Mine is ‘stuck’ at Granta, 6 months now. I always think they’re arguing over it in committee, but then I read it back to myself.
No Mat, I'm sure it's just fine. Hey, perhaps one of them took it home because they loved it so much and forgot to bring it back again. They're probably feeling bad about it right now; or maybe they did a few months ago and now they are over it. Sorry, that sounded better in my head.
@matwoolf -- I think the longer they take the more likely you're winning them over. My last submission to them was rejected in just over two month. However, they did take over 600 days to respond to me once and all I got was a form rejection. Anyway, I just forced myself to make a submission to them. I didn't want to miss out on the reading period. Fingers crossed for you.
I think you've got something. I would send them the one you submitted to Ploughshares or even the last one I read. I think your style could suit them.
Does anyone here have a submission out with Ninth Letter for their summer Web Issue? There doesn't seem to be much movement on duotrope, but I imagine they will be making decisions shortly. I mean it's almost summer. I sent in one of my best stories ever to them. Usually, these things don't work out in my favor, but I think this story is pretty spot on for their upcoming theme. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough... Is anyone else waiting on them?
Lost out on a nice contract for one of my novellas today. Personal rejection. Was previously told I'd made the top 50, but I knew it was a long shot as the genre wasn't quite right.
Yeah. @Lifeline created it for me. Pretty cool. Don't know if you noticed my , but that means good news. I'll message you the details after the contact comes and everything like that is taken care of. But this news could be bigger than just because... Let's just say it's with a lot more potential. But I am 100 percent
is my little key for publishing fiction. I did mark a small grant with the same thing once. If you look through this thread there aren't many from me, but there are some and they're all good news from good places. I always give the details of my rejections. Where, how long, personal or form. But with an acceptance, I just want to be careful. I like to have a contract signed and know what issue my story will come out to know it's really happening. However, I'm friends with some of you on social media and I do announce my good news there almost right away. But on social media I don't really mention rejections. On Instagram I post pictures of rejections that come in the mail, usually if they include some sort of personal note. On here, I do like to keep my identity private. Some of us know each other outside the forum from trading stories or developing friendships, but there is an understanding that we keep that hush-hush and off the forum. I also write essays and have had luck selling those on a regular basis, but this thread is more about short fiction so I don't really mention the essays on here. I guess I do when they are rejected and same with poetry. Most of what we write is going to be rejected most of the time. This shows the effort and dedication it takes. It also shows that even though it's mostly all about rejection, there are some sales. And I'm not the only one on here who has had some shorts published. It's always nice to see that hard work is paying off for any of us. I think we all have what it takes. It just takes a lot of tries. But I am super happy about my custom-made avatar. I think it's already bringing me some good luck.
Congratulations on your success! No one seems to have tried harder than you, so it’s nice to see some of your hard work paying off (and clearly you have talent too or you wouldn’t be published!).
I was also going to wish you congrats but wasn't sure whether you had actually got it or you were waiting. If you haven't heard for certain when will you hear for certain? I'll have to draw you an avatar, I'm pretty good at art.
Thanks. Yes I had a story accepted. That seems to be one of the few things that makes me happy. There will be a contract coming and then the whole editing process. I've been told it will be in their fall issue. I wish payment was on acceptance instead of publication. But I'm pretty happy about this one. Actually, super happy.
Well I am at the early early stages. I have written much but I have been rejected by two out of three editors. I have not even been asked to submit any manuscripts yet! I am waiting to hear from the third. Maybe editing is the thing we should all get involved in... Good luck and keep pushing
