James Brian Hellwig, professional wrestling's The Ultimate Warrior, died back in April without much notice. It's kind of surprising considering his peak popularity during his career.
Another Navajo code talker has passed. New Mexico state senator John Pinto, who for forty years represented a district which includes the Navajo nation, has died at the age of 94. Fair winds and following seas.
Using Navaho talkers was a brilliant idea! I hope they language stays and flourishes! USA government should help that!
The irony is that the United States spent decades trying to eliminate the Native American languages and culture. The Navajo code talkers and the men of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team had the least reason to support the American war effort of anyone, yet still they did.
I would say it's also ironic because it was used a code language because of it's obscurity. Therefore trying to eliminate made it more effective for espionage when they weren't many speakers left.
Bill Buckner dead at 69. Want to hate the guy, but he had a self-effacing humor about the 1986 ground ball. 12 Boston Sports championships since hasn't hurt either.
He's far more infamous for the ground ball through his legs in 1986 world series. I was only 8, and don't remember it exactly, but I remember how the world seemed to end for Sox fans everywhere. But, like I said, an avalanche of championships will cure all wounds. Go Bruins!
Damn. I liked him. Wish I still had my copy of his Gumbo album - I listened to it a lot in the early 90s.
It’s starting to be a rough month for music. Hip Hop pioneer Bushwick Bill died on June 9th of pancreatic cancer. He was 52.
Noooo! Bushwick Bill is awesome! Was awesome. Damn... he survived that bullet to the eye (a glancing blow) only to be taken out by cancer.
You'd have to be of a certain age to remember him and why he was important, but Lee Iacocca dead at 94.
