I have a student in one of my classes who, in genetics, hairstyle, and choice of clothing looks quite similar to a well-known animated character but I can't say anything for fear of embarrassing them or otherwise seeming inappropriate... Aaack!
Yeah. The other day it started raining and my ankle started screaming at me, "Hey, dude, remember that one time you tried too acid drop into a 12' pipe?"
I'm trying to figure out if you're not happy about the resemblance to a well-known animated character or the fact you can't tell us any more about the animated character. The frustration must stem from somewhere. Choices, choices....
Hey! Just realized this! Nope, Seeker is about 20 years before SkyNet, as a ghost-in-the-machine thing. I do pay homage to the genre though, with a few names and dates. Fighting the garage Kraken. "I'll lift just one more thing, and clean another section, that's it, I promise!"
Like in an Argos catalogue when something costs £49.99. "UNDER £50!", it says, in huge, flashy letters.
No sales tax where I live! Items here are generally advertised as VAT free...but then cost more than they do in the UK
We don't do that shit in the UK. Price including tax is what the shelf says, cos otherwise WTF. Only things we don't tax are books, children's clothes and food, IIRC. Though that may have changed.
I will correct myself on this, as we do now have a sugar tax. I know at one stage there was discussion of a pasty tax. This is from the country that has had a window tax and a does have a bedroom tax.
I think the pasty tax happened, moreover it’s for food served hot. I’m sure there’s a premium at our local bakery if we buy something ‘warmed up’. And not wanting to mix the two, but isn’t there the...um.. tampon tax too
Sadly, yes. All feminine hygiene products have value added tax (VAT) because they are classed as 'luxury items', IIRC. Yeah, cos that's what a period is-a luxury!
You can always cheat, and make your own feminine hygiene products. Spoiler Not that I ever did that. ETA: Maybe we should have a feminism thread in the debate room.
You can buy reusable pads. You put them in the washing machine and they come out good as new. They don't get blood on your clothes, either. I think there already is a feminism thread, but I haven't gone and looked at it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reusable-Sanitary-Pads-Women-Teamoy/dp/B0796QM5ZJ/ref=sr_1_8?crid=ACIO4MM59LV1&keywords=reusable+period+pads&qid=1560547218&s=gateway&sprefix=Reusable+pe%2Caps%2C151&sr=8-8
Well, men don't have periods. Also women's hygiene products can often be more expensive. It's known as the "Pink Tax". I'm not going to be responding any further (although if you have a reply I will happily read it and take it into consideration) so that I don't end up in a debate I'm not emotionally ready for.
I don't know how the UK works, I'm mostly asking. In Canada so many different things are taxed differently that it would be hard to keep track of even if it didn't change from province to province. I do remember when I was married, though, that my wife used to use around 8-15$ worth of "feminine hygiene products" per month which would make the taxes on that per year 15-20$. I'm not saying having taxes on those kinds of things are cool, but taxes are taxes.
