    Character Idea: Pandora

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by LastMindToSanity, Jun 17, 2019.

I'm not sure if this has already been done, but I haven't seen it yet so I'm gonna pretend like it hasn't been. Me and my roommate came up with this idea for a potential character. His name is Pandora and his power is that he can give you anything you want, but you have to accept it, and he can add any side effects he wants to what he gives you.

For example, if he offers you five dollars and you take it, you can suddenly find yourself unable to walk. Or you could ask him for the ability to walk, but once you take it you also find out that your bank account just gained a few extra zeroes. He can't force this power to work on someone who doesn't willingly accept whatever's offered, and his power doesn't work on himself.

I wanted to make a character who's very OP until you find out how his power works, then he's basically a normal person, and this is what came of it.

    Thoughts? Opinions?

You also get what everybody thinks you deserve.

That's a really good idea, and it sounds pretty original to me. So if you really like it, do something with it

    So basically he's the Devil.

Sounds interesting, but there should be some rules or limits to what he can do - you know, internal logic. The Devil (or Pandora) doesn't give away anything for free - that "side effect" is actually a cost. It reminds me of that show on Hulu - The Last Booth on the Left. A guy sits in a diner, and people come to him for favors. He'll grant them, but in return they have to do something random that's commensurate in effect for what they want. For example, one guy wanted flowers for his girlfriend, so he had to help an old lady across the street; after doing that, someone gave him some flowers.

    Hello, friend. :superhello:

That character for me is the Devil or some very ancient identity. I like the idea because it makes your characters that will face him, lose something about themselves or sacrifice something in return. Like IHaveNoName suggested put as well some rules how that character gives powers. That OP character must have laws on his/her world to provide that powers, maybe she/he isn't allowed to do stuff or can accept in certain circumstances. Just explore it.

I hope this helps. Keep on good work and have fun! :superagree:

Doesn’t sound much different that djinn, or leprechauns, or sidh who will trick you if they can.
