trying to contact/book authors to come in and speak for an event at work.... i never knew how hard it was to do this!
I've got 3 right now that I cant figure out how to contact. the publishers dont have contact info that's NOT for writers inquiring about manuscripts and publishing (helpful to me as a writer... but not helpful to my job).

You might want to try the writer's agent. You could ask the publishers if they have the agent's info? Also, the agent may be mentioned in the author's "Thanks To" in their book.

There is no good reasons for acting like you was in Facebook if you are in Facebook. The social code there is voluntary.

 

I'm no fan of Mr. Zuckerberg's arbitrary changes to the site and the issues with oversight or lack thereof, but I find facebook pretty useful. When I was young, I was in the service and met guys from all over the US, and now that I'm overseas, I'm keeping in touch with people on five continents (in the seven-continent scheme that counts Europe and Asia separately). I read a book about a couple helicopter pilots in Vietnam who flew the same aircraft together on a mission that earned them both some heavy-duty medal for valor. One of them got out the next week, and they never saw, spoke, or had the means to find and connect with each other until a journalist writing a book connected them thirty years later.

Plus, I follow a bunch of pages about kitties.

 

- Currently on Lappy. Haven't fired her up since weeks ago. Took a while to get in as I forgot to write down me new password; fortunately wasn't locked out for my numerous attempts; woulda been screwed if it weren't for the clues 10 was giving.
- Reading the PDF Manual I snagged a while back as last time I had it running I ignorantly shut it down in sleep mode or sumtin as it was dead flat today.
- Installing Winamp so I can listen to music while learning. Guess which song I've got on repeat?
- Heading into Lonnie tomorrow to buy The Contessa a new flatscreen with built-in dvd player as her old CRT is dying and I was suprised she agreed to upgrade; plus she gets the new Logitech 3 speakers system I bought on special from the post office a few years ago and never used; $100 down to $15.
- It's ride day tomorrow, and due to Lonnie trip and it was super overcast this morn, I went for my ride today, 2 days in a row, 59 in and 47 return, not bad for being tired.
- Had a nice long warm shower and fried up some battered fish and tater gems, with my usual pineapple pieces and OJ.
- Settled in and watched some NFL and WRC vids, then got online to research flatscreens and ended up firing up me lappy.

While on Lappy showing and explaining all the various options of flatscreens @ Hardly Norman's to the The Contessa,

we started talking about her cats, and it turns out that Hunter is a girl, not the boy I thought for the last several months.

The Contessa is very laxed with language, so when she said months ago that the cats had their nuts removed, specifically, Longshanks had nuts removed and Hunter had, what do female cats lose?

Constantly, The Contessa switches genders on her animals when talking about them, calls things by names that have no relation to them, then has a major hissy fit when I have no clue what's she's talking about and I ask her for clarification or I correct her just so I can follow what she's going on about.

I triple checked with her, and Hunter is definitely a girl...which makes Longshanks even more screwed up, for I thought he was insecure and often goes Alpha Male on Hunter, but she's a girl and he often flips out for no apparent reason and beats her up, and shows no sign of it being sexual aggression.

I love Hunter even more now, and she's currently on my lap twitching 'cus she's in dream mode.

 

They're the sort of young kids who only care about what gets on their Snapchat. I always tell myself that that sort of stereotype is mostly a joke about kids today... but then you end up on a party with them and it's sort of depressing. I tried really hard last night and conversations could only flow for that many minutes before SNAPCHAT!

A guy at the party was playing Game of Thrones all night. He told a fishy story about playing for a rich Russian that gave him insane amounts of money to play... and they were on the phone several times during the night. I told my friend that brought him that I was impressed that he spoke Russian... turns out his English was just bad enough that it was impossible to hear what language he was speaking. Still... not sure what was going on with the guy, the game and the Russian... but that was a conversation that I was actually grateful to get out off.

I've got a complex relationship with them. I worked with one of the girls. We hung out some and I was invited to some party, but I never feel we completely clicked so I wasn't really sure why she insisted hanging out with me. She, and the rest of her friends, are in their early 20's while I'm closing in on 30 and we just don't have anything in common. When me and my ex broke up they were the closest thing I had to friends so I spent a bit more time with them and I guess that's why I feel like I owe them a party once in a while.

The thing is that they are the stereotype of awful, young party people and they make me feel so old. Anything you do that they find weird/funny/other might be filmed and laughed about... and not in a friendly or fun manner but straight up mockery. That means no just dancing around having a fun time... unless you want it on their Snapchat stories of Facebook the next day. There is drama enough about them that you could fill a few High School movies and... I'm just too old and tired for all that.

I just feel bad for turning them down, especially since yesterday was most likely the last time I'll ever see them. So I sat through the night and tried to keep conversations going... but as I mentioned previously Snapchat got most attention and the "party" was just boring and awkward.

 

If you invited me, I could have out drank them all and when they passed out we could have drawn genitalia on their faces, posted it to their own Snapchat, and then have left with all the leftover booze and snacks. And probably the toilet paper, too, just because I'm a horrible person.

 

You're always invited to my parties. You will have to find a way to get there yourself, though!

I got two towels but they were both in the dryer. Actually come to think of it I think I have a third towel I forgot about. And maybe a fourth?

Appreciate you sharing Lemie. Always nice to hang out with folks who are comfortable with conversations deeper than the weather and other trivial topics and of not getting upset at my hermit\introvert 'what's going on below the surface' thoughts on matters.

I have some thoughts on your post, I'm checking first if it's okay to delve in more?

 

- Awoke around 11pm due to very heavy rain with decent wind.
- Re-awoke right on 1:11 (nice, will check the meaning out soon, that's 4 in a couple of days)
- No more rain but room cold; based on water tank timer in kitchen, power had been out for 2 hours. A near guarantee decent winds =power outages across a wide section of the nor-east of Tassie.
- Decided to get up, fire up the new gas cooker to make some coffee; power came back on at same time.
- Now 4 am; chillin' out with ambient music; have another coffee; 4 hours till Lonnie, no point going back to sleep; watch some vids n learn more about Lappy.

 

I'm known to be an over sharer on this forum... so there's always a risk of me going on rants on topics like this. It's how me and LostThePlot started dating, to be honest.

I am an introvert who grew up with social anxiety and decided a few years ago that I was sick of being scared of absolutely everything. So I'm pushing to be more social and out there. It's still harder for me to hang out with people, especially people I don't really click with. I guess that's a bit of background and an answer to a previous question about my introvert...ism. I'm not someone who seeks out noisy parties and big crowds... but I'd rather be at a noisy, fun party than a dead and awkward one where I'm the one trying to carry the conversation because I feel rude sitting on my phone when I'm out with other people.

And go on. If you ever feel like dissect or comment on any of my little rants I won't mind or feel offended.

 

Yet to me, another Introvert, though specialised due to my predominant Hermit Archetype, who once spent 40 mins joyfully intrigued by a small twig held in my hand as I lay under a tree, the amount you share is only millimetres below the surface of the one of the most wonderful things in existence, the human soul. I regard people are one of the most beautiful things on earth and I enjoy getting to know them.
