My restaurant's owner let my wife and I use his apartment in Newport for the weekend... said to help myself to any wine or booze I wanted. There must be at least 200 bottles here, so I'm geeking out a bit. 70% of them are Rose, but still.... I love Rose BTW, but dammmnnnn, boss, diversify already!
Long but hugely successful day: Spoiler: the usual deal... - Tired, tweaked me back a smidgen due to double ride and not enough stretching between long writing sessions; plus tired in the arvie but pumped, I mistakenly spent about 40 mins building a ramp and platform for the cats on the back corner of the cottage so they have easier access over the fence; then hit the village to grab some wood, steel elbows, nuts n bolts to build (tomorrow if back is okay) vertical brackets to solidly hold the tall (and far less stable than heavy crt tvs) flatties in position on their respective tables in The Contessa's bedroom and her living room. - The Contessa, difficult to take shopping for her as she suffers from a strong dose of multiple soul issues, actually did quite well today, though she'd slip into severe negative mode at times. - With me coaching her on the tech aspects, but going by her preferences, she ended up buying (I'm paying fot it all on my interest free card, but I kinda owe her about the same amount, she thinks she's paying for them outright, I didn't tell her on the day as she'd have a fit) a 32" Hisense flattie, no built-in dvd, but 2019 model with improved HD screen and built-in speakers; and a 43" Hisense, same specs as the 32 but with UHD screen. - Hisense comes with factory 3yr warranty; established brands only do 1, thus both tvs now have 7 year warranties ( I always buy the most extra warranty Hardly Norman offers). The Hisense in me room, perhaps 3-4 yrs old now, with quality surge protector, hasn't missed a beat. - The Contessa picked both tvs just on visual quality, and she was happy with the sound, even at 35%, and they both turned out to be the Hisenses... - so score for the better warranty. - then double score for the better screen technology. - then triple score for exceptional built-in speakers (my older Hisense has no speakers) - then quad score cus they both had AV inputs for the separate dvd players (some models not equipped with AV ports) - then the usual bonus score, 'cus I'm a repeat customer, the sales reps always knock off a reasonable amount of $; Tassie shops are okay with haggling; this is taboo on the mainland. - Then around town, snagged a couple of months supply of frozen fish, the rest of the coffee beans I haven't tried yet, and a new model Contigo travel mug to try out (Contigo are the CamelBak (treadlee bottles) of coffee travel mugs IMO) - The Contessa snagged some various specialised groceries, one of them Wobbly mince for the cats. - Nicely shoved the flatties in the back of the ute on top of an old doona. - KFC drive-thru for lunch and slowly headed home, which The Contessa enjoyed as she ˜laughs˜ had white knuckles on the run in as it was speed limit time with overtaking all the dingbats that drove under it. Casual driving for me; hard core for her. - zonked out late arvie. - came back to life around 8pm - havin' a coffee - watching some psych vids - writing notes for future works - thinking about Lemie's post - visualising my bracket builds tomorrow. - YAY FUN DAY !
I can understand about rants, I just got done ranting to the top person at this facility about the lack of ability of some people here at mealtimes. Also, I ranted about some of the staff treating me like I'm not home 'upstairs' Enough of me ranting here about this place, time for me to update my 'countdown' over in that thread.
Just carried down all my moving boxes... will have to repack them this week but it's quite overwhelming trying to fit your complete life in five boxes...
I'm going to have to move soon myself. While I'm looking forward to being in my new residence, I dread the actual move.
My move will be extremely slow. I'm sending the belongings I'm keeping this weekend. I'll have some people picking up furnitures the weekend after that. The rest will probably be moved the week after that and then there's the cleaning. On the actual day of the move I'll only have a cabin bag and one for my laptop and it probably won't feel like moving at all. I mostly dread the selling of the apartment. Once the papers are singed I'll be happy.
I’ve already outlined my second short story. It’s a bit on the silly/stupid side, but since I just wrote a story about a guy dying of a heart disease, I kind of want to do something lighter. Pro-tip: it’s okay to write stories that sound silly/stupid sometimes. For example, I like games that are kind of dumb, but they’re enjoyable. Not everything needs to be deep and cerebral.
Eating a bakewell tart and drinking a glass of perry. I don't even know what perry is, but I bought a hipster looking can for 55p, and it was 7%.
Don't know your personal prefences regarding what's a better location, but price wise, many parts of Tassie are super cheap. Our run down cottage is only $100\week; last time I checked, compared to the mainland, a small house in hicksville Brissie, QLD, in cheap suburbs was $300, let alone houses and 2 bedroom apartments closer to the cbd going from $450 to OMFG. Spoiler: our cottage - 1 bedroom railway worker's cottage, when I first arrived back in 2011. - pitched roof is original: front - bedroom, living room (fireplace); back section - storage room n kitchen. - flatter roof on right was added for The Contessa before I arrived, containing bathroom\laundry, now enclosed dunny, tool shed, and area for fridges and more hording.
Chillin' out since 3am; Now dawn; Set up tvs today and bike tyres if back is still okay as I have to move heavy 68cm crts to car shed. However, I need to check if The Contessa is energetic enough to clear space around tables to install new tvs as she was pretty zonked from our Lonnie adventure, thus another day of rest for me lower back would be nice.
Too bad I can't immigrate to Oz, I'm now able to get off the floor without help, so I could take care of myself to some degree and I'm getting stronger every day. I still didn't make it over to the countdown thread been having many things to do IRL. If you want silly, try the thread named 'News Item' over in the workshop forums, and I decided to submit the rewrite that I posted there for publication... The jury is still out on if they will buy it. Off to countdown now.
Learning that if we wanted to get to Mars, we'll have to deal with a little something called radiation, and no, it's not the type you're thinking of.
- Decided to first check me back with a small load of firewood for The Contessa. - Still iffy so no TV installs today. Recoup n stacks of ointment. - Hit the village for some more heat cream, came across me mate at the takeway shop, had a nice chat in me ute 'cus it's so windy and overcast today. - Grabbed some 300mm wide pine for an extra long base for the 43" as the table dimensions are tight. - TVs and bike tyres tomorrow.
Finished the morning run. Gonna read while sipping coffee really slow. Had a good time in Vegas an all, but damn that place is a wallets worst nightmare.
Drinking my second cup of coffee. When I went into the kitchen to get it, the sun wasn't up and the sky was pinkish lavendar and the mountains were purple. I love sunrises...especially after being up all night, as was the case last night.
Sending dick pics. They're not mine, but every time either me or one of my friends gets any, we share then and grade them on a scale of one to ten. I was thinking of making a thread here to do the same, but not sure how that would go over.
Just packed my last moving box. Half truth. I still have a few things like tea, dip mix and honey to try to stow in there somehow. Still... all things packed and they're all under 20 kg. I'll be left with almost no clothes or cutlery for the up coming three or so weeks! I vote yes - the mods will vote no. We never get to have any fun around here!
