How does payment from Amazon work?

Discussion in 'Self-Publishing' started by Philliggi, Sep 6, 2019.

    Hi all,

I self published with Amazon KDP on 6th July, and understand payment is 2 months in arrears?Does that mean I'm due payment today, or have to wait until the start of next month? I'm a little confused and want to check it's not me that's cocked something up

its 60 days rather than two calendar months, but it depends on when the purchases were made - so you'll get payment 60 days after the reporting period in which the purchases were recorded, so if people purchased immediately you published you should see payment fairly soon - it should show on your amazon reports

Payments for purchases made in July should come at the end of September.

You'll also get emails a few days before they send a payment, so if you haven't received any emails they probably aren't sending it out yet. I think you can check the payments on the dashboard, too.

Edit: actually, maybe the email comes when they send the payment, but it's a few days before the payment shows up in my bank account.

If you are running adverts don't worry if the ams dashboard doesn't tally with the sales report - the ams reporting is notoriously inaccurate and laggy

Sold over 200 copies according to the bar chart, and had 90,000 pages read on kindle unlimited.

60 days ran out on the 4th September.

As bayview said sales the july reporting period would be paid at the end of september ie 60 days from the end of the reporting period... to be paid in early sept they would have to be from the june reporting period which is why you have no reports yet available

this is what amazon have to say on the matter

"KDP pays royalties every month, approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which they were earned."

    https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G200641050

So assuming all your 200 sales and 90k page reads were in july - you'll receive payment for them towards the end of september - if some of them were from august you'll get those payments near the end of october

Ha ha was literally typing a message to say I'd figured it out at the same time I got your alert. Thank you, it's been baffling my head all day, but at least now I know I've not done anything wrong, even if I have to wait to get my sports car and holiday villa until October.

First off, congratulations on outstanding sales. 200 copies and 90,000 KENP is a very respectable set of numbers for a first-time, first launch.

On your sales dashboard, you can set the range of the report, I set mine at month-to-date, currently showing August 19th t0 September 18th. I track sales on an Excel spreadsheet on a daily basis, so I can make sure my marketing dollars are generating sales.

I get paid on the 29th of the month, my last payment was for the period June 01 to June 30, paid on August 29th. I expect you will get an email on September 22, and the payments become effective on September 29th for the month of July. Again, well done, what is your title?
