Basically, don't have the money for Oxford English, so can't find it myself. Looking for a list of archaic words that are synonymous with teacher. Ones that are incredibly uncommon.
I don't have Oxford English either - just googled and got relinked to wikipedia. According to International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA): /ˈlɔːriu̯/ But it may also be pronounced: ˈlɑːrøːw Teachers weren't usually referred to as teachers. Instead, you might just call them Master /Mentor or something like that. Not rare, but probably more likely.
I'm not really sure how to read that phonetic alphabet, hence why I'm asking. Additionally, for what I'm trying to do, it has to be an archaic synonym for teacher.
I'd try speaking something like "la" (basically pronounced french) and row (actually the crossed o would rather be spoken like ö in german but I can't think of an english equal) ... 'm out when it comes to synonymes for teacher.
I think I figured it out. I also looked up old terms that should be used for a school. Phrontistery. Works for exactly what I need it to.
Well I dont have references, I'm down one bottle of coffee wine(nicotine taste buds tasted no coffee.... sue for false ad=Profit) And well into bottle of cheap sour off cast wine. So.... archaic? Idk. Just gonna spew my brainspam of synonyms for teacher. Sage Loremaster Leeraar Onderwyser (afr contemporary) juffrou (afr cont female) Weird state engaged: Boggler Idmancer Knowrer Shower? Kenner Second hand merchant of knowledge. (A Chichewa man once asked my father: Why do teachers teach a thing, and those they teach go somewhere with this knowledge, make money, yet the teacher remains a teacher?)
If you hover your mouse over a character in question on Wikipedia, it will pop up a pronunciation guide for that phonetic symbol using an common English word.
(name)-elda I'm pretty sure it's a male honorific in Norse to note someone of greater experience or age, like a teacher
