Nick Park and his never-ending claymation films. I know this is hypocritical of me, a man whose only ambition in life is to see Fridays come round, but he just never seems to advance or move on. He just churns out the same, annoying characters with their teeth and stupid grins, over and over again.
People who say "anythink" or "somethink" instead of "anything" and "something". And also people who say "mute point".
The letter accepting my resignation (that I submitted before the termination letter was done being typed up) ages ago featured "mute point" prominently. Dunno how I resisted the urge to fire back at that one.
People who use the words "Anywho" and "guesstimate" unironically. They're usually the same people who ask "how's the weather up there?" as a form of introduction like they're the only human in existence to ever think of chaining those words together when talking with a tall person.
When I was in hospital, I heard more misuse of the English language than I care to remember, and it was coming from the English nursses, not the foreign ones. "I'll higher the bed" - meaning "I'll raise the bed" "Try not to itch" - meaning "Try not to scratch" "You'll feel a sharp scratch" - meaning "You'll feel a sharp prick" And the usual "lend" to mean "borrow" etc. etc.
I was not sure that it was written "guestimate" I was thinking it was "guess-timate", however, based on the corrections offered for my writing of this post, Grammarly says it's either your way or "guesstimate". So, I sit corrected.
Item 1) Are you sure they weren't considering employing the bed? 'hire' Item 2) Are you sure they were not asking that you try not to feel the sensation rather than avoid taking the action? Item 3) The nurses (and phlebotomists) that I've dealt with usually say "Just a little pinch now." Item 4) Are you sure they aren't messing up by saying "borrow me" rather than "lend me"?
I have too. Usually when I am trying to stick a pin in the map and find where this bus is going... (c:
And in that post, I failed to say that to me the word is almost a contraction of guess and estimate and that I accept is as a valid sort of wordform.
1) Was intended as humor. 2) Though a bit lamer, also intended as humor. 3) Not disputing you, just was mentioning what they say to me. 4) Work with me on this one, I can see that you are in the UK, please show me examples of the usage because being in the USA I don't understand things quite the same as you.
The times I know I need to get something done, it's right in front of me, I'm ready to go, but I can't. Focus has been for me my whole life, and really hit me hardest in my colossal failure of a first attempt at a college degree. I wish my mind were different sometimes, but I don't as well. I guess we all have an irritating thing to struggle with daily.
People in my part of Scotland who say "How?" when they mean "Why?" I always end up answering the wrong question—in detail. (My specialty.)
Down here its "where's that to" meaning where's that gone, but also 'where's place name to' - how do I get to x
