In one of my back stories, a young goddess is stripped of her power and turned into a mortal being. Is there a word that incapsulates this: Specifically having god like power and imortality stripped as a punishement. I am looking for one word ideally so that I will have the flexibilty when using it. Thanks!
Apotheosis or Deification are words you can use for turning from a mortal into a god. I'm not sure if there is a word for the reverse (could be very wrong). Maybe you could use something like anti-apotheosis or de-deification?
if "ungodded" is a word, then there's a lot more flexibility to the english language than i ever imagined.
I aint no shakespeare, and Albionan be me second lingo, but if there be no experimentation, a state of stagnation is attained. Freedom extends to all spheres of existence.
I like ungodded or degodded. You could make up a term that only Gods/Goddesses uses for when they're dismissed by their peers or have their powers stolen from them or redefine words that describe what deities would see as an embarrassment or misconduct.
Partly, it's going to depend on how gods work in your story and what characteristics they have. For example (because everything is always about our own work) in one of my side projects gods are a significant part of the story and lore. I envision them as what I call extrapresent beings, who exist in dimensions and across space in a way that is broader and more fluid than mortal beings, so they might think to call de-godding containment or imprisonment as they are no longer transcendent beings beyond the mere physical form, as it were. If your gods are part of a specific real world mythology, or heavily based on one, it might do to tap into that for the flavour. Different pantheons have different ideas of what their gods are exactly, how they work, and aesthetics associated with the pantheon that can also add to framing.
Apotheosis is a great word and can be reconstituted here for what you're looking for. May I suggest 'apanthroposis'? Not a word, but uses the same construct, with 'anthropos' (man) instead of 'theos' (god). Or thrown to earth? Ballogaiosis?
